    Hi there
has anyone any experience with bringing a Wedding Dress on a Plane, be it Aer Lingus or Ryan Air? Would like to know about cost, where they put it and how it worked and if the Dress survived!
I think about getting mine in Germany but plan to marry here!
    Thanks!

A friend of mine got married in France in 2007.
Aer Lingus allowed her to bring it into the cabin as an extra piece of hand luggage and hung it up for her during the flight.
    She contacted them in advance.

If you're not actually getting married, they might be a little stickier about it.

You could stick it in a decent-sized box and get it couriered home with DHL or whoever. Probably not massively cheap (more than €150 anyway), but it'll be quick and fully insured.

I was on a flight from london - shannon two weeks ago, lady had her dress, she seemed to have paid for an extra seat and priority boarding, but she was fine! heard Aer Lingus are perfect too. but i think your best in case of ryanair to book a seat for it. aer lingus just tell them and they will look after you

My cousin phoned Aer Lingus beforehand and explained to them and they hung it up for her at no extra charge, this was last year though, so I don't know if there is a charge now though, sorry.

My friend got married in 2007 and as she was traveling with her husband to be she didnt want to take the dress herself in case he saw it before the wedding so she asked me to take it when we were flying out. we flew with Aer Lingus and they were happy for me to take it on board and the air hostess make sure it was laid flat in the overhead bins. No hassle or stress with the airline but worried we would lose it in the airport!!!!

A friend of mine called up day before flying, I couldnt tell you the airline, possibly aer lingus, she was going to las vegas for the one year anniversary and they were going to get hitched in one of the Elvis chapels too, the airline said yes take it on board as hand luggage and when they arrived to check in they were promoted to first class as the airline assumed they were getting married for the first time.

I took mine over to Ireland via Aer Lingus. All I did was to get a box suitable for hand luggage, pack the dress in it, and off I went. I got my box from here: http://www.emptybox.co.uk/products.asp

Aer Lingus no longer provide hanging space for dresses on short-haul flights. The Customer Service desk told me this when I enquired in 2008.

I didn't even bother with Ryanair. Knowing them, I'd be told to buy another seat for the dress!!
