Just need a bit of advice regarding purchasing from an online UK retailer.

Example: We live in Ireland, and we wish to purchase from a UK retailer on the internet, we have an Irish Mastercard with a matching Irish address, can we purchase from the UK website and have the items delivered to our Irish address? or failing that, can we have the delivery made to a friends UK address?

Never purchassed from the internet before . . . .

Yes, that's how Internet purchasing works.

Not usually. Delivery to a different country than the registered card holder would send up a serious fraud flag.

I've nothing further to add that has not been covered, except that I'm stunned that someone with 2,500+ posts on this site has not bought on the internet before.....

Even my mother has bought online at this stage.

    /T

Well maybe they are very cautious I know we were before we bought stuff on the net,

I know alot of people that have not brought stuff on the net! Even though they have the net at home!

Reminds me of a post in the Radio forum when I stated that I was a keen radio fan of some thirty + years but had never listened to Joe Duffy!
a certain poster couldn't believe that anybody could listen to the radio for so long, and not have never listened to Mr D on RTE :)

I have not bought online before, and I was just asking 4 help > is it always safe buying online? should I always take the PayPal option? are deliveries guaranteed? whats the % of goods not turning up? + sooo many more questions for a first time user!

Nothing can be answered in such general terms, too many different sites, and reliability and security vary. Nothing is ever 100% safe, guaranteed or secure.

I would avoid Paypal for payment as much as possible. If the retailer can process credit cards directly, then use that. Credit cards give far more protection than Paypal.

The golden rule will always be if it looks too good to be true, then it is. There should never be any doubt in that. Rule no 2 is never use Western Union to pay for anything. In fact, any site that offers WU as a payment method is highly likely to be a scam.

+1 to jor els post re western union. You will also find that sites that accept paypal only are usually smaller operators. In general if you stick to established sites that have been around for a while, don't have any alarming links showing up when you google their name and scam then you should be ok. Things can go wrong within the postal system but in general you are protected as the onus is on the retailer to provide proof of delivery in any dispute. Most reputable retailers will look after any complaints or missing orders with minimal fuss.

i wouldnt go as far as that, i regularly use a site that accepts westernunion and they always come through for me
of course, scammers use it as well but but every single site that accepts westernunion is a scam
