Photographing Norther Lights - Help please

Hi folks,
I'm heading to Iceland in 2 weeks time and hope to catch the northern lights.
My question is, how do I get the best out of my very basic SLR. I've a Canon 350D and am concerned that it may not be good enough to get some good snaps. What kind of settings am I looking at?

Do you have a tripod... if not, forget it.

Tripod, remote control, camera set to bulb

Might not be a good time of year - make sure you get a clear night

I'm personally waiting for the real light show to begin in 2013....

Have a tripod, will bring it with me. Was going to leave it at home.

As wide as your lens can go

Prob need to use manual focus
