    Hi,

Thinking about going to corralejo for my honeymoon in a few weeks. I don't like to fly so don't want to go too far but sun is a must. So I figured the canaries safest and easiest option.

I'm looking at a villa in corralejo but I just want to make sure the resort is not all tack, is not over built up, there is a bit to do, but not too mad.

Basicially, if you've been there would you go back, and if not, where would you recommend.

    Thanks

LOL Of course I mean *We* are looking etc. :D

Was there in 08 didn't like it at all not much night life it wasn't that warm infact someday's the wind would skin ya, beach wasn't great imho nothing to write home about at all! water park was good though. Would rather Lanzorote or porta rico any day .
    When you planning on going?

Was there a few years back and would also not be in favour of returning and as elius has stated, the wind there is something else and as mentioned nightlife was very low key, would be thinking October will be pretty chilly there too.
Prefer Lanzorote myself of the Canary Islands but for the time of year your going would think Puerto Rico in Gran Canaria would be one of the warmer spots.

Fuerteventura is lovely. The wind IS a big issue, but the clue is in the name!

I would go back to Fuerte in a heartbeat but wouldn't go back to Corralejo. The south of the island is much nicer. Moro Jable (or Morro del Jable) is one of the main resorts there. Much quieter and the beach at Moro Jable is excellent. It's also not so windy down there. Costa Calma is down that direction too, but is almost exclusively German package holidays (depending on your perspective, it's not such a bad thing).

Do take some time and explore the island. The west coast is spectacular!

We did and unfortunatly rented an open top car needless to say the women in the back where not impressed will admit the south of the island is warmer with less of a brezze but still nippy when the wind pics up. Its a nice island dont get me wrong just not as much to see or do as lanzorote or alike imho!

We're not really looking for a mad night out type of place. But we don't want it dead either. Although the wind would be a concern. Is Lanzarote the same? Gomera was an option but I'm finding it difficult to get info on it's nightlife etc. I'd be worried it's a "lights out at 11" type of island.

Whatever we do, hiring a car and getting out for the day will be a big part of the holiday so if we go to fuertventura we will make sure to drive the west coast mikedragon. :)

Although so far, it seems that it's not recommended! We have been to grancanaria so wont go back (my OH is even reluctant to go to the canaries as we've been there).

So somewhere one flight away, good weather and wont cost a bomb. :( Why is it so hard to find. lol

Was in Cyprus in 2005 and 2006 for the start of October, weather was very warm but its not usually the cheapest of places to get to.
Its definetly my other OHs favourite holiday destination.

Shiibata, are things closing up around that time?

I would Love to go to Santorini but I heard October is not ideal because things are closing up at that time.

Well, both times I went in October the resort was busy enough but that was mainly due to the fact that we went when Ireland were playing. The 2nd time we went, must admit we were still there when most fans had gone home and it sure was queit alright.

Another option you could look at is a cruise! Was never on one before til May this year when booked a surprise cruise with Thomson for a week around the Med for the wifes 40th. Was brilliant and would highly recommend one. Getting to see so many places in a week is an added bonus

I have a different opinion about Fuerte to be honest - Ive been to all the Canary Islands and on a lot of package holidays and am going back to Corralejo in a few weeks for the third time... granted Ive never been in October so I really cant advise you on that time of year but Sept is certainly warm enough - yes its windy but I quite liked that and especially at night when you want it to be cooler.

I thought the beach by the dunes which is about 10 mins from Corralejo was pretty amazing to be honest, it's one of the main reasons I am going back and as I said I've travelled a fair bit (including Thailand and Oz)

It is a resort and there are bars and the usual strip but I preferred it to Lanzarote and it has a lovely old harbour area with some really good restaurants... I havent been to Lanz in a few years but my parents and sis and her hubby went last year and said it was so different, loads of places had closed down and the recession had really had a negative impact on it.. so I'd def recommend Fuerte I have to say...
