    Hi,

I'm trying to decide on a POV camera I can use while snowboarding.

I've narrowed it down to two choices, the ContourHD 1080p or the GoPro HD Hero.

Does anyone have or used either of these cameras. I am more interesting in which has the best video quality and doesn't overexpose the snow.

I'm leaning towards the GoPro HD Hero at this stage, because from the videos I have found from both, the GoPro seems to be the best.

    Here are some examples:

It's nothing quite as fancy as that which I have, just a ATC3K, but I'd expect the setup to be even trickier for boarding as your not even looking directly forwards in the direction of travel as on skis. Have had far too many shots of just getting the angle wrong and it pointing to low to the snow, or up at the sky all day.

true story: just used one of those key fob cameras on the glacier in les 2 alpes, it was class!

Also got to use the Gopro: its pretty class, just take a look at the snowboarding vid made using it on the net (the one with eric willet in it), its pretty excellent quality. Its tough as nails too. I'm thinking about getting one myself, they are pretty class!

    Hands down....GO Pro HD

So much lighter than the contour. Seeing friends footage from both the contour is pretty shaky and a little heavier than the GO Pro.
Check out the Krankworx 2nd place run of Mike Montgomery earlier this month here in Whistler. The camera stays steady through the whole run and all those hard landings.

During the Olympics the TV companies were using them. Hi-Q enough for TV broadcast.

Small and almost smash proof with a kickass fish eye.

Im going to invest in one myself for this winter. :)

My mate has a GoPro HD 1080p and the quality is excellent, granted he uses it for 4x4 off-road and not in a snow environment.

I was originally going to get the Countour as it was shaped like a tube and would fit pretty well on a helmet but after seeing the video's my mate has produced I am going for a GoPro HD.
Also they seem pretty tough and could take a lot of abuse!

Has anyone tried the v.i.o pov 1.5 camera out in a snow setting? What's the quality like?
A friend of mine has one he uses for mountain biking said I could take it boarding this year. Only thing is I'd hate to break it on him, it's wild expensive.

Haven't tried the Vio pov 1.5 but have the 1.0 and the quality is really good. Had problems with the memory card not staying in the slot but once I got that sorted it was fine and fairly straightforward to use.

I'm looking at getting the Go Pro HD Hero this month, after watching some of the footage it produces, I will be going to egypt soon and I need a good camera for snorkelling and scuba diving and I will also be going quad biking in the desert and will need a good camcorder that wont get f*cked up with all the sand, go pro hd is what I need! Quality is great!

I use contour Hd 1080p, best picture from any pov cam i have seen. Biggest down side but same with most helmet cams is the brightness on really sunny days. Will get a filter for it this season. You cannot judge the quality from watching videos on the net coz they are compressed for the net so they will mostly look the same.

20 mins recoding time takes 1.5 GB and when uploaded to the net this will be reduced to less than 100 mb if it didnt you would be all day waiting for it to load.

If you want I will try upload a video thats only a few seconds long and try and keep it at the original settings.

The VIO copes really well with bright conditions when the sun is reflecting off the snow. It is expensive though.
