    Hey all,

Was just told about this, apparently a program on BBC1 has something good about car scams on it.

    Anyway, this one in particular.

People mess with their brake light circuit, deactivate it, get people to crash into them by braking hard and claiming on the insurance!

    Sneaky!

    Interesting program.

Yeah I heard of this when the Jack Lynch tunnel opened in Cork first.
There is a slope downward from all slip road entries (bar the tunnel itself) and the, ahem, knackers used to loosen the reversing bulbs in the vans and watch in the mirrors as a car approached down the slip road towards the roundabout. As soon as they could they would pop the van into reverse and back into the on coming car.
They didn't remove the bulbs, just loosened them.
    You can guess the rest.

Thats where a roadhawk would be a very worthy purchase!

Maybe the foot brake stops the car more suddenly.

Yes very good program, was just about to start a thread about this. They also covered lads carrying Jammers who block your signal when to radio lock your car so that they can open the door when you walk off.

I have experienced this, people thought i was mad but it defo happened. Just before christmas last year. I parked opposite the Odessa off exhequer street in dublin. around 1pm in the day. There was a audi A6 parked in a spot behind me, with 3 heavy set turkish looking guys in the car.

When I got out. I got a parking ticket and went to put it on my dash, closed the door turned and walked off. pressing the lock key as i went. I must have pressed it 4 times. at this stage i was parallel with the audi and I could swear the guy was pressing some sort of handset everytime i pressed my key. Im very 'ocd' about hearing my door lock and i knew it had not locked so i walked back pressing the key as i went. It only locked after 3 more times. These lads were extremely dodge. the front 2 looking at my every movement.

Judging by the time of year and the proximity to grafton street i would suggest they were after shoppers christmas car contents. Simple tool to block a signal and the majority of folks would just walk off and assume the car is locked.

Moral of the story LISTEN FOR THE LOCK and VISUALISE THE LOCK CLOSING. I knew i wasnt mad then and this show has confirmed it for me. It is a known scam and please dont brush it off because people suggested last time my battery was low and blah blah blah. (it wasnt low and in fact ive never had a central locking issue ever with the vehicle) Anyway it takes nothing to pause a moment to protect your contents.
