Just wondering on this one...so yea I'm a bit of a 'fan-boi' for the 2600, and my collecting priorities go into it. But reading the Atariage 2600 forum, it seems a lot of people go to a lot of lengths to collect for certain companies to 'complete' certain areas of their collection.

I'm nowhere near finishing off any of the company collections myself, and don't know if I ever will be unless I really go out of my way to finish one off. In saying that, I only need one title to have all the Men-a-Vision games :)

So just wondering: do any of you bother trying to get all titles for your collections from one company, or is this exclusive to old Atari systems? Surely there's now a chance to break down what MD/Snes etc titles were released by what companies, and complete the collections?

I usually just try to get games that are good. If there's a bad game in the series I usually won't bother with it. However I'm currently trying to get all the shin megami tensei games. Going to be hard considering one of them is a very rare windows game that hardly ever appears on even yahoo auctions japan and I'm hoping for Persona 2 remakes for the PSP because it goes for silly prices on the PS1.

I mean more like, say all the Acclaim games, all the Activision games, etc. for a particular console.

Nobody wants to collect all the acclaim games :)

I did try to buy every single Treasure game. Then I bought Freakout and decided I only needed the good games.

Treasure and Konami are two ones that come immediately to mind with the Megadrive (the focus of my collecting). But I've never really thought 'oh I must get that to complete my Treasure collection...' It's more along the lines of 'oooh, I almost have all the MD Treasure games, that's odd'.

The only thing I'd really try and complete would be series of games.

Well I bet I've put new collecting ideas into your heads now, bet you're already checking to see what games you need to finish a set! ;)

This retro gaming has so many levels..

Was handy for me I discovered I had a relative in Konami. A package arrived out of the blue containing ever megadrive game they ever produced :)

Let me guess the men-a-vision game. Air Raid good luck getting that. one sold there for like 33k.

No actually, I had RKA before he sent the games out so ended up with two copies of a few games because I loved a lot of konami games on the MD.

I'd like to get the full set of Pokémon games, fully boxed. Not the easiest thing to do but still could be do-able. The only one I seem to have trouble finding is one that was released on the Sega Pico. I don't really have any particular attachment to any games companies like Activision or whatever so I generally don't collect all their games.

This is a dangerous place, filled with temptation.
Someone mentioned the glories of Neo Geo gaming, and before you knew it I had gone on eBay and bought a motherboard, supergun, psu and a couple of carts, pure madness.

Ah yes, but unlike me, you did the sensible thing and bought a multi cart :( There's no going back for me now, I'm in too deep.

Well I dont really focus on any company, but treasure on the MD, mainly beacuse they only had a handful of games on the system and they are all brilliant.

Retr0 are you serious? And they are in the attic? Get that sh1t up on the retro trading stickie!

  • Moderators, Category Moderators, Computer Games Moderators Posts: 52,410 CMod ✭✭✭✭Retr0gamer

Yeah I'm serious. I'm hanging on to all of them though. Unfortnately any duplicates I had went to my cousins so you are out of luck.

This Air Raid game for the 2600; was it rare enough when it came out first or is it just that there are very few copies of it left? I was telling a friend about it last night and he is convinced that a friend of his had it when they were younger...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,790 ✭✭✭Jack burton

I wouldnt say they had it

The had "Air Raiders" id say another game for the 2600, funnily enough its not one of the most expensive games on the planet

You'd definitely know if you had it due to the weird handle on the top of the cart. There's no other 2600 game with anything like that.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,237 ✭✭✭✭djimi

Yeah I asked him about the T handle and he couldnt remember. I was dubious before, but upon reading since about it I very much doubt it was Air Raid he had!!!

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 520 ✭✭✭batari

Plus it was only released in the US, not Europe/anywhere else :)

And there were a few other t-handle releases about over the years, probably copies of original titles, but they're definitely out there.
