car stereo connection

Hi,

I recently just got rid of my car but kept the stereo. I went and bought a cheap 2nd hand car but there doesnt seem to be either the right connection. Is there some sort of adapter I can get?

What are those wires normally called?

I had to buy them for my radio too when I changed it. I went to the motor parts place in tallaght and just showed them the radio and told them what car I wanted to put it into and they told me the one I needed!

It could of been halfords that told me the one to get but I bought it in the motor factors for a tenner instead of twenty in Halfords

Sorry to be resussitating an old thread but it is a perfect fit for what I've been meaning to find out for ages.

There is several of us in Cork that are talking about removing OEM radios from cars and fitting better units - Sony, pioneer (you get the picture).

I've heard that you can buy adapters to allow your car loom to connect to a non OEM radio but is there any site on the internet that ye know of that gives names/pictures of these adapters.

Is there any site that shows you how to adapt the steering wheel controls on a (for example) Focus to a Sony radio with external control connections?

I've tried googling some different combinations of words but internet forums are the result and most don't have any or all the combinations of cars/radios we intend to fit.

Just after I posted the above one of the lads sent me an email with this info, it might be helpful for Focus owners but if anyone out there has seen a site than allows you to look up different car/radio combinations could you still post it here please.
