why did they change it in the first place
Because it had MSG which acts as a flavour enhancer and adds a fifth taste, called “umami”, which is best described as a savoury, broth-like or meaty taste.

It has been hinted that the use of the additive msg may cause health side effects and some studies linking it to hyperactivity in children so due to adverse publicity and consumer concern there is a drive in the food industry to remove it from recipes. So your campaign to add it back into a product that children consume might not suceed!
This article lists the other additives from the hyperactivity study that were found to have an affect.

You could always write to Knorr and ask them to review the recipe again but MSG is so damn tasty and impossible to create a better flavour without it.0 -
