    i have an early 70s sun racer which is running a fixed gear
    it has a loose bb crank and crank arms are held in with cotter pins
    how could i put a modern bb in it as im putting a new crank in it

    Then it depends on what type of BB you currently have to remove it

    Probably a cup and cone.

    Then find out which way your frame is threaded, english or italian, what width the shell is, and pick up a bb the correct size.


    I wussed out and brought mine to Joe Dalys, they swapped it out and put in a cartridge one for around 40 quid I think. Easy option as BB removal can be torturous if it's rusted.

    i can take it all out easy
    but i want to put a cartridge bottom bracket into it so i can put a modern crank in it
    and its an english thread

    what width is your bottom bracket shell, 68mm?
