    Hi Everyone,
Anybody can give me some advice on which paper to choose for the options? I have one paper left, I don't think P7 Audit is my choice, so really want to hear what do you think about P4 & P6. Thanks a mill!

Youll probably see that ive posted this a few times, but am just trying to warn people off P6 if they can avoid it.

I dont know P7 to be honest, but with passrates on P6 at around 27%!!

I got 50% in P6 this time round after failing it with 49% in December.
So am certainly a lucky boy & chuffed to bits......

But the Examiner is a f****n weapon of the highest order!!!!

I would strongly advise to steer clear of this option as the past papers are no help & the examiner is completely unpredictable.

Unless its required for work or you actually want to go on and do the tax exams afterwards (not even sure if its required to be eligible to sit them, but...) I would stay well away

She adds unnecessary complexity to all the questions in the exam making things so so difficult before ya even get into all the detail with the question, which is the minutia from the course that the lecturers havent got time to go through.

A prime example would be VAT. VAT is in every paper, simple as.
In the last 15 or so exams, VAT on property has come up, so you wouldnt be too surprised to see it, oh no, VAT on produce in a staff canteen comes up.

Like what planet is she on, we're in the middle of a property recession, where people are being forced to sell, before the VAT life expires, so a clawback etc, yet she choses something that hasnt come up in about a decade to examine.

I would attribute absolutely no fault to the lecturers, theres simply not enough time to go through all the details she's expecting knowledge on.
If it were an open book exam, i might understand, but its a 14 week part time course, yet she's expecting a near tax specialist.

I still think its mad that the ACCA P6 is the only closed book tax exam at this level!!

But, after my rant, I am happy I got it and wish you all the best in whatever option you choose.

If youve any further questions, feel free to PM me.

    P

    Hi,

Thanks, am chuffed I got it after the 49 in December.
Done now, and onto my last exam next June.

I studied in Independent Colleges with Mel Kilkenny both times.
Excellent lecturer, but you need to put the work in!!

Attend every class, all revision and do the weekly questions he hands out.
    He will mark and advise.

With tax the main thing was practice questions.
You can read and read and read, but youre only kidding yourself, the only way to pass the exam is do every question you can get your hands on and try envisage every possible scenario you can think of.

Sayng that tho, youll probably read that the current examiner is pretty unpredictable, so past questions dont help.
And I'd agree to a certain extent, but doing questions dont do any harm.

Any q's feel free to PM me.

    P

    Hi,

Thanks a mill for the info.

One of my friend studies with Mel Kilkenny before as well, but she doesn't like his teaching style, especially his revision classes.

Does he still put students into different groups and let them discuss questions? Do you think it is useful?

he didnt this year, but did in December

Its a good way to study in my opinion, but different strokes for different folks.
I found it useful and to be honest you get what you put into the class.
If you interact and ask questions, you will remember the answers to those questions, rather than a mock solution or whatever.
I gave some mad answers and made some crazy suggestions in class, but ill deffo remember the right answer now.

    But ya have to try.
It does require an few extra hour per week on top of classes.
This is so you dont fall behind as alot of topics are interlinked.
Just summarising his notes, learning them off & doing the questions he gives out will take the time up very fast.

When he does revision, he does try to cover alot of questions, and i found that great.
We can all read the notes, its his interpretation and assistance with the q's that we're paying the fees for.

Any other q's, feel free to PM etc.

    Hi P,

Thank you so much for all the information, you have been extremely helpful!

I went to the college yesterday, and got talk to one of my favourite lectuers:p, he suggested me go for P6 just because it is the one I have some interest when I studied "F" level.

So I will do some serious study for the next 3 month, wish me luck! :)

Best of luck in your last exam!
