Whats the story with parking in NUIM?
Do you need a student permit or is it first come first get?

Last year it was just first come first served. They're talking about bringing in a permit scheme, but don't worry, I'd say we'll all get emails and talks about outlining everything to do with it.

New parking spots in where cycle lanes were before, and one way system, so about 100 more spaces. Which should make **** all difference :)

Thank god I won't have to drive in this year. Walking is the best.

I was in maynooth today and a nice lovely guy in the admissions office said there's a fee of 50e per year. Or there might be a fee.

If that's correct, I think that's fair enough. Not too bad for a whole year's parking. It'll really encourage people who live in maynooth to walk to college too.

I posted a thread on paid parking back in June.

You can find information about the intended plans here

At some stage there will be permits introduced. I'd say sooner rather than later because also in the plan is the one-way system which is no implemented, and the critical parking area (aka side of the road parking, which will be expensive paid parking).

Permits are €50 for students, €60 for staff. Designated staff & student permit-only carparks. Permit is not a guarantee of a spot in the carparks so expect those spaces to be gone by 9am lectures. The rest of the carparks are paid parking. From memory there may be incentives for car-poolers.

On top of that, remove all the locals parking in Maynooth and you get a fairly large difference. Anyone who visited the college during the summer should notice the amount.

    Thanks TV for the linkage.
It is still vague about how many parking spaces will be available to be used by holders of the permits. Could someone shed some light if it will be the majority of the campus, or if it will be a little section that will be full two hours before I get to campus?

My only concern would be that you buy a parking permit and still aren't able to find a parking space in the allocated area and will still end up paying in the pay and display area

You can take it as a given that the permit-only carparks will be full pretty much all day. It won't hurt to check, but don't hold your breath would be my advice. So on the odd day you might get to park for "free", but most days it'll be paid parking. It's kind of like Dublin City Council giving people on-street parking permits and you getting home to find no spots on your road - you're going to have to pay to park elsewhere.

Signs have been placed in some carparks now stating "Permit holders only. All other vehicles will be clamped". I'm not sure if all permit-only carparks are signposted yet, but the one I aim to use has been :)

What will all the mammies collecting their kids from school do now?
