Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Insert Stoves

We have this fireplace 019.jpg in a room by 27 x 18. It has 4 windows which are double glazed. There are two rads which feed out 7kw in this room but the fireplace is never used and is effectively an expensive ornament. This room isn't high useage in house but is during family occassions etc christmas. However I would like to boost the existing heat system which is a condencer oil boiler with the use of this on very cold nights or during prolonged periods of cold which I think we could achieve by blocking draft from chimney by fitting an insert stove which we could light for small fires etc.

Have looked at Stanley cara insert stove which I can get for E850
Have also seen a Mulberry stocker which seems to have a very small firebox for E800.

I got a price of E1200 for a stockton which is possibly a bit of a budget breaker.

I've heard by reading here about other varieties, green stoves, tr4s etc which would be a bit cheaper.

I'm looking to see what other irl users think of theirs. Thanks in advance for any help or guidance.

not an expert on inserts but just be clear on whether u need a timber fuelled one or a multi fueled one as there is a difference.
If u go multi fueled have a good hard look at the ease of ash/clinker removal as some I have seen are a dog to 'de-ash'

You can always have less heat by burning less but you cant have more if the firebox is 2 small:)

In terms of fuel I would consider timber and nuggets but not coal as there is just 2 much clinker and dirt.

Burning turf is not considered green:)

    keep warm

God thanks for raising that valid point. Do anticipate to be burning a combo of wood and briquettes or nuggets. Possibly not coal as that I hear gets too hot.

(Parents have a stove and its impossible sit in the room when at full tilt which they love)!
