I am looking to buy an amp and have come across www.hifiglobe.com.
Firstly has anyone any experience with this website?

Secondly, the company is based in Gran Canaria. They don't pay VAT on goods there but the guy assures me that because they are in the EU that I will not get hit with customs or VAT.

The package would be coming from Gran Canaria to Ireland via DHL.

Can anyone tell me if I will get hit for taxes or customs or is the guy genuine?

    thanks.

why not try someone closer to home, Richer Sounds are decent for prices and they have a very active rep/contact here on boards.
I know nothing about the place you mentioned.

hmm, I don't like the sound of this nonsense. Can the guy give you that promise in writing?? Sounds suspect.

What's suspect about it? Gran Canaria is part of Spain, and Spain is part of the EU.

I don't think it is suspect. Prices are cheap because they don't pay VAT.

They use DHL so I decided to give them a call. Turns out that they consider Gran Canaria outside the EU and I would get hit with about €140+ customs and VAT charges....

Yep I have been talking and haggling with RicherSounds and will be buying from them as soon as they get back to me.

    thanks for your help

so why (according to their website) won't they ship to Spain then?? I dunno, I like the old adage, if it's too good to be true...you know the rest.

you do realise its not DHL that decide they're not in the EU. they are in Europe but not an EU member. similar situation to gersey ahd gurnsey. in europe, part of the UK nut NOT in the EU

As said, the Canary Islands are not in the EU, and no duty or VAT will be on any purchase. As such, you will be liable for both on importing anything over €22, for VAT, and €150, for duty.

Buying electronics from the Canary Islands is like buying from Hong Kong. 99.9% of the time it'll be Sorny, Panophonics or Sunyo.
