Currys price promise - not as advertised?

Went into a Currys store and asked if they do a price match for a tv set. The guy said yes and took details of the tv being offered cheaper in powercity.

He then came back to me saying 'we don't do a price match if the item is on sale in the competitor's store....'.

Is this normal practice or the salesguy was telling me b*****ks? Will this constitute as false advertising?

    Thanks

Ask him for the T&Cs associated with their Price Match offer. These things usually have the clause "T&Cs apply".

Nearly all price match offers from all retailers exclude sale, special reductions, ex display & inetrnet prices.
