    Anyone played the course?

Just wondering what it's like because I'm playing in a classic up there on Friday week.

Could be wrong but it'll get mixed reviews from here I reckon going by a few comments previously posted. I personally enjoy it, for one I live very close by thus very handy and so I've played it umpteen times and I have used the practice facilities quite a bit in the past.

Haven't played the course admittedly since June. But driving past it everyday it looks in good condition despite a few greens from the main road looking like they've been sanded heavily(14th springs to mind).

Front 9 is very open and you'll get away with errand drives for the most part. Though if you're going to miss, miss it right(except for the 2nd). It's most certainly the scoring/far easier 9 of the two.

Back 9 is far more interesting as you'll see when you play the 10th :D
14th is the only rather straightforward hole on the back 9.

There should be a decent video tour of the course if memory serves me on their website if you want to get a little preview of the course :)

Played it 3 or 4 weeks ago. It was in good nick - greens were all pretty true. Fairly hilly but nothing ridiculous. Other than that, I agree with the above poster - a good solid course that will improve over time as the trees on the front 9 mature.

I've been seriously considering joining it actually. I'm not a great golfer, with not a lot of actionin the last few years, but if I get out, I get up to speed reasonably well. Want to join a place to avail of practice facilities etc, and be able to grab a few holes as and when it suits. I like the chipping practice fairway/green setup they put in recently - its just what my short game needs.
I note SC have dropped their membership fee to zero, so annual subs gets you full membership - 1900 I think including 300 bar bill.
Still undecided, though, will play it in the next couple of weeks and decide

It's in good nick alright - front nine are a little boring and
open but the back nine is very good with a couple of
risk vs reward decisions for long hitters.

You need to get the weather though cos it is wide open
up there with no hiding from the elements.

On a calm day it still blows a gale....

All the greens were hollow cored and sanded on Monday so they will be a bit bumpy for a while. I'm a member(5 day) there since April and it's the best money I've spent in a while, good course and a well run club.

I think the front nine is better, especially the last four holes. I much prefer the look without trees and am a little disappointed to hear that they sound like they've undergone a tree planting programme.

The eleventh is a good par-3. I dislike thirteen. Fifteen almost pulls it off, as would seventeen if they just took one tree out at the dyke.

Front nine just flows better than the back nine.

    Pretty decent course though.

I always enjoy it and am looking forward to getting out there soon.

Sodbuster - Did they plant a load of new trees out the front 9? It'll take years for them to mature and make any impression as the wind blows a real gale up there, no matter what time of the year it is...

    Enjoy it Baz!

Im supposed to be travelling up from Killarney to play in Ken Dohertys charity day on Wed 15th Sept (2 weeks time). You reckon the greens will be in poor shape still by then? Dont fancy a 4 hour drive to play if the greens are gonna be like that.

I'd imagine they'll be fine in a week or so. By the 15th of September they'll be as good as ever.

I like it. It is forgiving off the tee, lots of room on most holes. The greens are quite good, have never been better than that when I have played there. It's an enojoyable round, some of the holes could be improved, but you could say that of most courses. It's in lovely countryside, quite exposed, so it often blows a good wind.

Sorry, what I meant was you must have pretty high standards. I suppose we all have courses we like and dislike.
