Im moving to the uk and know that i can drive my car for up to 6 months but dont know of any insurance companys who will insure an irish reg to drive in the uk for 6 months. Is there much hassle to have the reg changed and to get an mot? Appreciate any help from any1:-)

Firstly, are you sure its 6 months? Seems like a very long time. Often there are restrictions on the number of consecutive days abroad.

Getting insured in the UK on irish plates is tricky. You need an MOT and UK reg plates. In order to get them I think you need to speak to a UK insurance company about getting temporary cover on foreign plates whilst you register and MOT your car.

Its quite painful and a lot of hassle. To be avoided if possible!

Sell the car here cheap & then buy in uk even cheaper and if you ever return you will be able to take it back here vrt free.

If you must bring your own car, why not contact your current insurers. They might cover you for 1 month on existing policy & irish plates while in uk. This would allow you to look into changing over.

Thanks for the advice. Ye i know you're allowed drive it for 6 months but cant find away to get insured so my best bet is probably selling it. I still cant see myself saving much money buying one in the uk because its a 99 bmw with a lot of miles but i love it nd have never had any problems. If i sell it for half the price i bought it nd then have to buy a car which cud be full of problems( I know nothing about cars) it just makes really want to keep my car that has gave me no problems:(.
