oh god don't start asking questions like that.. king hobart doesn't like it.

I have sweet feck all interest in flat racing, tbh. I live three miles from the Curragh and would never bother going up there.

    Punchestown however.....fap, fap, fap.

I was going to ask the same question.
Why were mdwexford and richie banned? I used to enjoy reading their posts.

I seem to remember a very similar thread last summer. I definately think there's more interest in NH racing among this forums posters. I rarely have a bet between the end of Punchestown & Charlie Hall day

It will pick up when the national hunt starts again. the flat season is cat

I suggest you do a little research before naming mods in posts. :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,339 ✭✭✭convert

And just to clarify, I have not perma-banned anybody from this forum. So end of discussions re. bans, etc.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,339 ✭✭✭convert

It's not just this forum that has been quiet for the last while, a lot of other fora have 'gone quiet' too. I think it probably has to do with the fact that July and August are the traditional holiday months.

Also, as mentioned above, it's flat season... 'nuff said... :pac:

I like following Ballydoyle, and I will watch the Group 1's, but I find it quite boring.

I like seeing the old stars return every year in jumps. i also think I'm more disposed to watching telly on a staurday afternoon in the winter when its pissing outside, than in the summer.

Do you not feel that alot of NH racing is very poor standard. Flat has exciting moments like seeing classy maidens being run, the progress of 2yo's, the classic season and the targets for older horses.

I agree that its nice seeing old stars return in jumps and its the one thing that ruins the flat. Would be great if all the really good ones came back for a 4 year old career (which ballydoyle have started to do as of late)

The mods are too strict, so alot of people are moving to new forums,

I think last year's racing was fantastic on the flat, mainly thanks to Sea The Stars. The year before Zarkava was fantastic too,and the year before I just loved Ballydoyle, they had one hell of a season. Watching Henrythenavigator against Ravens Pass was easily the best duo I saw over the course of a season. There just aren't any horses that excite me like they did this season, and Ballydoyle doesn't have half the ammunition as they did that year, with the likes of Henry,Duke of Marmalade,Yeats,Dylan Thomas for the Arc and to a lesser extent,Septimus. I couldn't care less about any of the runners he has had this year or last year. That year he had 5 or 6 really top class horses, the closest he has this year is Rip.

What's all this about hobart anyway? I remember there was a thread started a while back saying 'that he was the reason that the forum was so ****'

From my experience, comments based on personal experience always tend to be more reliable than information gleaned from other people's opinions, no matter how well intentioned they are.
I am in the betting threads with regard to Horse Racing,

I assume you mean the gambling forum?

If you, or anybody else, has quries regarding anything to do with modding, or this forum, can you please follow the dispute resolution process, details of which may be found here. Thanks.

Hobart is no longer a mod or user of this forum, so I think it would be unfair to discuss somebody who will not be able to reply to any comments or points about them. So let's leave it at that, shall we? Thanks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,339 ✭✭✭convert

I really don't want this thread, which started off well, to go down the road of discussion modding, etc.

If anybody has any problems or queries regarding the modding or content of this forum, can you please follow the procedure which has been put in place? If the thread continues to go down this route, it will be closed.

No problems, and neither of my posts were directed at you, by the way. They were intended for the general readership as unfortunately threads such as this always seem to end up focusing on modding, despite a really good and well-intentioned opening. :(

Alright,no worries. Hopefully we'll see a bit more traffic about here anyway come November or so.

Roll on the National Hunt season.... :D Punchestown on 13 and 14 October will probably be my first 'outing', though I may get to a point-to-point or two before then!

My 4 good friends, who i know and trust, went to a restuarant,
each on different occasions, none of them enjoyed their meal, Are you suggesting I should go to said restuarant to get "personal experience"

    wow, ask a simple question!!
did not really want the thread to end up as a slagging session, just a legitimate question....
I feel that most of the people on this forum are lovers of horse racing, not just gambling, and I believe that NH and all that it stands for will always be more attractive to the majority of horse racing enthusiasts (just my opinion, not looking for a debate....please!).

mods, lock it up at your disgression

With Sea The Stars' achievements last year, I think this season was going to be much quieter and a bit of a let down. Unless we got another STS, I think this flat season wasn't going to attract the same amount of attention or capture people's imagination to the same extent. I know it definitely hasn't for me.

Still sick I missed him run at Leopardstown - who in their right mind allots a racing fan a presentation slot at a conference at the same time that STS was running?!

As said already everyone will be back and active when we hit November.

I've been posting here on and off over the last five years and it's always been the same.

Posters come and go, as do moderators. Horse Racing doesn't change.

am i the only one that prefers flat over NH? i traditionally go to ground over the winter months and surface around march
saying that i have been fairly quiet on boards over the last while too

    Pretty much agree

Aside from Group 1's and impressive maiden winners I find the flat very boring. I have zero interest in flat handicaps

Don't ask me to explain why but attending the November Cheltenham meeting is worth more to me than 10 seasons worth of flat racing

Pokers players moved from boards.ie. Many gamble on horses and golf. So they don't use the boards.ie horse racing forum.

I thought the horse betting advice on here was not supported with facts / research. I now read and post on the Betfair forum.

And boards.ie mods are power mad. I've been banned and infracted for the most trivial reasons.

None of which were received in the Horse Racing forum.

Seeing as people don't seem to have taken on board the warning re. commenting on mods' actions, this thread is being closed.

If anybody would like to have this thread re-opened at a later date, or have any points they would like to discuss with me, please feel free to PM me.
