HTC Hero - Touchscreen not responding at all

Well I dropped my Hero but there appears to be no damage to the screen or casing. So restarted the phone and on restart (which took way longer than usual) the touchscreen stopped functioning and a notification icon I didn't recognise appeared. It looks like a disc with an exclamation point beside it. The roller bar and the buttons all still function. However I can't get into the phone as I have the security pattern enabled.

    So I suppose I am asking 3 questions :

    1) Any idea what the icon could represent ?
    2) Any ideas on how to disable the security pattern lock as at least then i could use the phone to make calls ? (The phone is rooted )
    3) Where, in Dublin, could I get the Hero repaired ?

Any help would be great as I am demoted to using my backup SE W205 phone now :-(

It sounds as if all that happened was the digitizer got disconnected (Or broken but you said you can't see any signs of damage).

Here's a digitizer so you'll know what i'm on about.

    Thanks for the reply ..

Yeah there is no visible damage to the phone at all. Not even a scratch on the screen.

But that sounds like the issue. The fact that it takes so long to boot up prob means the digitizer is disconnected (and not broken i hope)

I'll have a google about the digitizer this evening and give a go at fixing it myself :)
