It was easy to switch.... although I lost my contract so I wasn't obliged to continue with ACA anymore (I was actually advised by a job agency to change to ACCA) - registered with ACCA in Jan, got my ex-employer to fill in the PER for me cos it's registered with ACCA and wrote exams in June (i didnt bother with the SFMA repeats).

I passed Tax, Fin Reporting and Auditing except SFMA -CAP2, so I got exemptions from all the F's except F5 and F9 (my degree was considered as well).... I would suggest that you have a look at the ACCA website and see the exemptions your degree will get you, then use whatever exam you passed with ACA to get more exemptions.... you should also ring the dublin office to find out more info...

I won't say that the exams were easier... however the flexibility is awesome! and you are not tied to a contract:) hope your query has been answered....

    Hey acca_newby,

I believe congratulations are in order.
    You must be absolutely delighted.

was considering transfering to ACCA at one stage myself, just a few questions on your post.
Did you lose your contract with your employer or was it the training contract, as I was under the impression that the exams could have being sat out of contract. I am open to correction on this tho!
Was It a big 4 employer that you finished up.

I have heard that ACCA is more in favour from a students point of view.
does a degree give u much exemptions, as I would thought that the professional exemptions carry much more benefits? Do you mind me asking where u got the degree - trinity, ucd, dcu etc....

I guess its 5 exams left now - I guess you can start picking em off, 2 more sittings of 3 or sumthing like that.

By the way , do ya still have a job since transfering to ACCA or are they easier to come.....

Thanks a mill teddy99! Firstly, you are right about the contract... it was the company contract i lost while the exam contract is still open for a yr, however, i decided not to continue with the exam becos it's compulsory to get a new training contract before writing the FAE which i knew was impossible cos a friend of mine lost his in 2008 and still hasn't found a new training contract! (no employer wants people that have failed exams before).

I was with a Big4 firm, finished from NCI so i didn't get all the exemptions.... ACCA favours schools like DIT and DBS more concerning the exemptions - they get all 9!

I know some will say ACCA is better than ACA and vice versa, for me the only difference i have noticed is that ACA has the content but isn't well delivered by the lecturers cos i am a kind of student that learns 90% in class... also there are a lot of questions in different ranges to practise with as opposed to ACA that presented students with pilot papers halfway through the course.....

Unfortunately, i haven't found a job yet... got a few interviews in industry roles but all complained about lack of accounts experience:( but im quite hopeful now that i am a finalist:D

Phew! that was a long one!
