Change of Ownership

    Hi all

Thinking of changing my car and giving mine to my wife. Do I need to do a change of ownership across to my wife. She would effectively be insured on the car with me as a named driver so I presume from an insurance perspective it would need to be in her name? Also from a tax perspective, possible driving offences etc. If that is the case would this have an impact down the line in terms of number of owners?

    Cheers

The registered owner and the day-to-day user of the vehicle don't need to be the same thing.

Unless the insurance company insist on it, I'd leave it in your name.

If they do insist on it, I'd ask to speak to a supervisor or something - I don't see why you should have to add an additional owner to your car (which will affect the resale value) unless they can give you a very good reason for it.

Leave it in your name, if your wife is gonna be the main driver on the insurance its fine she will just have to say the car is in her partners name.

As for driving offences if and when they come out there is a section on them to nominate another person as driving at the time so it wont be a problem

Cheers lads. Just confirmed what you have said above with the insurance company.
