    Hi All,

    I need some help. We're getting married next July, and for the church music, my fiance's cousin has agreed to play it. He's a classically trained guitarist.

    Im looking for some ideas on some nice acoustic guitar tunes/songs.
    Now, my fiance's sister got married in the same church a few years ago and the priest isnt all the receptive to alternative music. (as i guess most are not) but we dont want hyms and holy songs.

    Im aware that just a solo guitar might not be enough, so we might be getting a singer or other musicians, but for now, we like the idea of just the one guitar.

    Anyhoo, any suggestions are welcome. thanks! :)

    Music is part of the liturgy. There is not much scope for innovation. Though you might find a happy-clappy "spirit of Vatican II" type priest who loves nothing more than to get down and happenin' with the congregation.

    Surely he could play guitar to his heart's content at the reception?

    So you're saying that there's specific music/songs thats usually played?
    What are they?

    We already have music for the reception already.
    Its not about letting him play something, its about us wanting something different for the church.

    Traditionally:

    Introit, Gloria, Kyrie, Credo (I don't think there's a Credo at weddings), Sanctus, Benedictus, Agnus Dei

    or commonly:

    Introit, Gradual, Alleluia, Sequence, Tract, Offertory, Communion

    There is a large selection of songs that are usually played at weddings that you could choose from, google it and you'll find plenty. most singers have examples listed on their websites. As someone else said, the music is part of the mass so the priests usually insist that its religious. The only song you have a bit of scope to change is the one when signing the register and leaving the church as the ceremony has finished at that stage. You'd still need to run it by the priest though.
