    I failed recently in Raheny.
I was asked all the hand signal questions and when I can overtake on the left, what the speed limit on a motorway is, what to do at a flashing amber arrow.

The one road sign that I know I got wrong because I knew I had seen it lots of times but couldn't remember what it was, was the pedestrianised area one - a blank circle. The others were fairly OK, series of dangerous bends ahead, dual carriageway ahead, road narrowing, road divides and level crossing.

Driving-wise, I was taken down by the Garda station, up towards the Church, up past the hospice where I took a right turn, around lots of those little housing estate roads, did the turnabout, did the reverse around a corner, eventually came out down Swan's Nest road direction, onto the Kilbarrack road towards the sea, along the coast to the bottom of Watermill road, hill start by the side of St. Anne's park, then back to the centre.

The clutch was what killed me. I was overthinking what I was trying to do and tend to hover over the pedal, which I think got me marked for coasting.
Onwards and upwards though, trying again Friday week.

    Good luck with yours.

    For the hillstart :

Once you've stopped on the hill make sure you're in neutral then put on the handbrake and make sure it's pulled up fully (mine wasn't when I practiced once). Indicate to move out, make sure there's a sufficient gap for you to move out in time. Check over your shoulder as well as centre and wing mirror. Put it into gear, bring it to the bite but try not to over-rev (you'll feel the car trying to take off, and the front may dip slightly). Slowly release the handbrake, while slightly lifting the clutch and pressing the accelerator.

I know you understand all that but on the day the nerves may get to you. For my pretest, I twice forgot to put it into gear before moving out, and got two (very simple and avoidable) grade 2's.

    Best of luck.

    Thats a fairly common one.

I was talking to a former driving tester about it and he said that that was the one (along with the blue &white H for hospital sign) that they love asking as they get the weirdest answers for them as people never seem to recall them!

FWIW I was asked the pedestrian one on my test recently (finglas, passed)

If you make a mistake, no matter how big you think it is, just keep driving like you know how to. Try and stay focussed til the very end of your test

    Best of luck

    Massive +1 from me

I thought i'd failed, pulled out of a T junction to turn right, stopped in the middle of the junction when I saw a car on the main road, let him pass and continued. I was sure i'd get a grade 3, I was almost in tears but kept going.
Turns out it was a grade 1 (deserved a 3 to be fair) and I passed!

I got the blank one in both my tests...the first time I didn't know it and the second time I simply said no cars allowed and he accepted it.

The H is another bloody matter, I got asked it in my second test and I answered Helicopter Pad ahead >.>

    Felt like a right thick.

    .
Apparently a lot of candidates answer something like "height restriction ahead".

The H sign on the test page actually shows a H with a "150 metres" under it. Where is there a 150m height restriction? Lol.
