Fuel pump problems

I have a Ford Focus, and according to 'the computer', my fuel pump is not connected properly. According to my mechanic, there is a clip, and the clip is closed properly so it should mean the pump is connected properly, if I am making sense!!

I am told I will need a new pump, at a cost of €200 and then labour on top of that. I really can't afford that right now.

    Any thoughts/ideas?

It's a 1.6 petrol, 2004. The petrol tank is on the right hand side, when the gauge goes below the half way mark, and I round a right hand turn the car starts chugging. Going up a right hand bend on a hill is scary!!

So it means I am constantly having to fill the petrol tank

bet ya the pump in the tank has disconnected from its mount and is on its side. Happened to me with a vento before.

It should be easy enough to check too. lift the back seat and take the top off the tank and have a look in. all you should need are some very basic tools.

Ha myself and a few friends call them fuel pump fords!! The pumps always seem to go in them! One the lads had it go in a mondeo and he had to drop the tank to get the old one out and new one in! He did it himself so not sure what price you'd be looking at in a garage!
