when you see 1 & 1A it means the horses are 'coupled' to each other for betting purposes (only in america, be careful with the french racing as this betting is made up by 'bookmaker INDUSTRY prices' where the coupled horses are individually priced by the uk bookmakers). So, in the states(orin your local bookies) if you back number 1 you are automatically also on 1A. I had an incident recently where a shop tried to not pay me out on the 1A.........2 hours later they did!

In the late 1990s at Aqueduct I backed a horse. It lost, but its stablemate (1A) won so I collected. Which was nice.

Rules vary from state to state, there is an anomaly in New York where if there is an entry in the race, say the #1 and #1A, if one of the members of this entry is scratched after betting has commenced then all the money wagered on either horse gets refunded.
However, The part of the entry not scratched, say the #1A, now runs as a nonbetting interest, it's finishing position gets disregarded for betting purposes.

The rule therefore directly effects lay bets made in the race. If you have layed something other than the #1 or #1A you will now be betting against the horse that was layed passing the post no worse than 2nd....

Ok getting back on topic .

I dont know anything about hosses.

So the op has asked about american hosses having strange numbers .

My question is why would a hoss have a number at all . I mean they cant answer it if you ring it anyway.

Don't forget that a 'report post' function exists. It's usually better to use it rather than risk back-seat modding.

Can you please tell me, someone who knows nathin about hosses what sort of questions am i allowed to ask in here without upsetting mein feurur into giving me another infraction.

I mean the op asks a silly question about mobile phone numbers for hosses and everyone takes him serious and then i ask a similar question and i get an infraction for it .

Thats just not fair, Cmon help me out here but everyone knows hosses cant answer mobiles unless apple has come up with some sort of ihoss or a hobbyhoss phone .

So please can you explain to me who as a new poster on the hoss forum what i can and cannot ask or discuss without upsetting you .
And can you please try and be adult about it because handing out infractions for silly little things that annoy you is just sooooo childish.

Ps . Any chance of a few tips ??
