PIAB indepenent assessment - what to expect

Hey folks, have an independent assessment coming up in the not too distant. Is it just a case of going to the appointed GP and explaining how the accident has affected me? I feel as if I'm on trial can't help it! Also I'm a bit confused - without going into too much detail a lot of my initial injuries have improved thankfully (though they are fully supported by GP, physio attendance etc.), though still have a few lingering effects. I am just afraid the GP will examine me and base their opinion on how I am today as opposed to the whole ordeal - I presume the paper trail of my own GP, physio etc. will be taken into account?
    Thank you!

Mod - could not think what forum, so if unsuitable please export :)

    Hi Tommy

Dont worry about your medical exam. Normally the GP who examines you will be furnished with copies of your medical reports and will base their opinion on that along with their examination of you.

Do you have a solicitor for this case? In my experience, most PIAB cases go through a solicitor...

Some good info on the PIAB (now called the Injuries Board) process at http://injuryassist.ie/injuries-board.html

Yup I do. I heard the figure was about 80%, but that says about 90%! I am not sure if you automatically go through medical exam or if it is in certain cases, don't think solicitor has anything to do with that part, though they may try settle outside of PIAB I believe. Thanks for the link anyway.

Just to let anyone know who comes across this that it is fine really - much like a normal GP check-up, just be sure to list everything that happened to you from day one of the accident. They fill out a form as you speak and give their verdict (which should pretty much concur with what your GP/physio said all along), this is then sent on the Injuries Board for consideration.

Sounds about right - from what a mate told me, the solicitor will guide you through the whole process, and the IB expects that he/she will do so.

So coming close to 6 months now since medical, still no outcome! Can't help but feel there is something wrong with my claim - my solicitor has gotten in touch with them (PIAB) twice (no answer), I've rang them twice (just told its in system and they have until mid-april to respond). Thought this was supposed to be a relatively quick process - could use that money I paid for the medical report round about now :(
