Anyone know when the offers will be made for campus accommodation? The application email just says August.
    Cheers.

Give it a week or so. They have a lot of sorting out to do. We're one of the latest colleges to start so you'll have plenty of time to find accommodation if you don't get it.

Well, I just got an email telling me that I didn't get a place.

As well as a hand list of EVERY SINGLE OTHER STUDENT who didn't get a place in accommodation. Data protection issues aside, I think this might well be a rather awesome way to go rent a house or flat or something. Pick a few names of people who don't have too many 'XOX' and randomly capatalised letters in their email addresses, and see if they want to rent out!

    I got one too:(
Even though they said they give priority to people who got over 500:mad:

On the phone trying to sort it now..

Did they say that? I thought that was just a rumor flying about.

I'm looking into the Gateway village.

I think they still do have vacancies. That is, if they didn't, they wouldn't still be telling people to book soon to avoid dissapointement.

Got the email there, got my place! WOOO :D

EDIT: Just a thought but I reckon it's on a first offer-accepted first served basis. I accepted my offer at 6:05 am and I think that's why I got it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22 Totally

Yeah I did the same straight after 6.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 647 ✭✭✭slasher_65

I accepted mine at about 9 or so, in the middle of all the ZOMFG CYBERCRIME (aka the CAO not being able to deal with their users. again.)

    Ah well!

Does Shanowen still have any places? thats a bit closer to the college for people looking. There's apparently houses around it where students sometimes rent too.
If you can get a group together you might have a cheaper deal renting a house and splitting the costs, rather than paying by room.

I'm glad that after first year, you find out if you got on campus in April, Such a relief to have it out of the way.

Just a quick question about accommodation.

Is it entirely random if you end up on a mixed floor or a same-sex floor? My dad filled out the application form and says he doesn't remember if there was a preference option and now that I've been accepted into Larkfield I'm wondering if I'll end up on a mixed or all-male floor.

    Cheers.

    It's random I think.
That wouldn't bother you though, I'd say ya'll more more after the lecturers than yer peers? :p

Theres no preference in what floor. You'll share with someone of the same sex always. They say they try to accommodate age and course but from what I've seen its completely random unless you specifically gave the CAO number of a friend who was applying.

you can tell from the number on the payment form you should have gotten where you are. VG-ground floor, V1- 1st floor, V2-2nd floor. Then the letters are the rooms.... I'll miss my old V118b

Ground floor is all male, middle all female, and top has both apartments.
theres also supposed to be a common room on each floor but were always being closed after people would drink there and leave the place in a state.

I wonder if they'll have fixed the ground floor apartment that was on fire last year? That whole corridor still smelled like smoke when I was moving out.

The rooms themselves are fine. its just not somewhere you want to be spending all day., as its... small.
I'm not good at describing so here:

^ Here is my my room the day I moved after putting stuff away.
    7122_155963416576_682291576_3068693_6507797_n.jpg
^ and here is the kitchen. your bedroom has a door straight into there.

^ My room after a semester of filling it with junk

^ and finally, view from the window during the "big freeze" as they called it.

Those pictures on the accommodation website are pretty misleading., so theres actual student photos for you..

Please tell me that was the first day you moved in or the last day....the only 2 days of the year my kitchen was that clean :D

People always complained about Larkfield but I actually liked it  Hampstead is much better but you can't beat the ghetto for it's eh "coziness"....

Ah damn it anyways. Cheers for the photos. Sure i'll settle in anyways but yeah pics are def appreciated. Maybe I might be able to swop during the year if i'm not happy but who knows until i get there. Are all the rooms the same in Larkfield?

    Anyone else on 1st floor?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 717 ✭✭✭Noodleworm

The rooms are all pretty much identical. Two rooms in each apartment are pretty much a mirror image of each other.

and yeah, that was a pic of the kitchen on the first day, although I did keep it really tidy. I was a neat freak about that apartment... not looking forward to sharing a kitchen with 4 others next year:(

I've a question... are there pots and pans etc. supplied for the kitchen or do we have to bring our own?

I think it says in the letter that you have to bring your own? If I remember correctly :)

I just got a letter today about it, I'm happy cos I hadn't even looked at any other accommodation (I'm talented at putting things on the long finger.) I'm on V1.

You bring your own Pots, pans, plates cutlery etc. Don't bring too much, I only ever used two plates and mugs. You get a kettle and toaster but need to sort out Microwaves. I brought one up after a few weeks, dunno how I lived without it.
There will be a new duvet and pillow for you when you get there. (they take this out of your deposit, and you have to take it,..sucks) so you need sheets, duvet covers and bed covers.
and don't forget to bring a towel...

I got VG today. Gonna have to rush to the bank monday morning though :/

Another question: Is there a wardrobe/chest of drawers there? Is it a decent size? A few friends of mine went to UCC last year and were constantly complaining that they couldn't fit more than a few days' clothes in to theirs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭Tiroskan

There's an open wardrobe/shelves thing at the bottom of your room, behind the door, that I found held a fairly decent amount. I never wanted for space anyway and I'm a girl. ;P

ETA: No chest of drawers though and I wouldn't think you'd have the room for one. Unless you replaced your table with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 717 ✭✭✭Noodleworm

theres this wooden-storage-cupboard type thing at the end of the room. You have shelves and a clothes hanger there. Its enough for over a week of clothes easily, just don't over do it.

If anybody is lookin for a place to stay myself and 3 friends are staying in a 5 bedroom house down glasnevin avenue,10-15 minutes from the college. We're all going into our 3rd year studying engineering in DCU.
    http://www.myhome.ie/residential/brochure/34-beneavin-drive-glasnevin-dublin-11/210241
We have one spare bedroom and are lookin for someone to fill it. Cost is 330 a month plus bills. House is quite big, central heating and double glazed pvc framed windows. If anybody is interested give us a shout!

Hey Guys if you want to see what campus rooms are like just search DCU Cribs Larkfield or Hampstead Cribs in YouTube.

Larkfield is quite small but it'll do for first years so we can get our bearings. thats where i'm going to be in a few weeks.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10 badradio

Staying in Larkfield V2, spied into the rooms today. kitchens are decieving in size. They're the same size as the bathroom pretty much. Bedroom looks plenty big enough and the storage/wardrope space looked fine too.
not impressed by the green carpets and prison cell walls, but hopefully there wont be too much time spent indoors.

Did anybody get a confirmation or reciept after paying for their campus apartments?

I wasnt sure if I did the Giro thing properly as I was told to change the amount payable

    Hi guys!

There are 4 of us hoping to move into a house but we need one more person.

You'd have your own bedroom and it costs €320 per month or if you wanted to share a twin room with a friend it would be €270 a month.

It is on Ballymun Road (beside the Esso station), 5 minute walk to DCU. All bedrooms are ensuite with tvs, 42inch tv in the sitting room which is big and bright and a great kitchen. It's all refurbished and modern.

There is also private off street parking and a decking bbq area.

We need to know in the next 24hours so we can take the place so it would be great if someone who is DCU would move in with us.

Send me a PM asap. :D
