Going into 1st year and i am completely on my own!
Does anyone know where i can find other 1st year roommates if i dont get on campus accommodation???
I would like to share with other 1st years as they are in the same boat as me but i dont think private accomodation does that, you just have to share with who ever else gets in their deposit first.

Can anyone help me with this??

    xx

I'm going into first year as well.

Do a house share is your best bet! And make sure to ask the landlord who the other room mates would be, what year they are in, etc. :) E-mail the college for a list of people that are looking for people to take single and double rooms. Or if you want I can send you the list that they e-mailed to me.

You can get some places for as cheap as 75 euro a week at the moment, and the people you live with are usually other students or live in the area. If you need any numbers for people who are looking then let me know and I can PM you! I think I know some landlords who already have first years.

I literally just found accommodation yesterday, but I turned down quite a few places. This week would be the latest i'd leave it too, because as far as I know, it will be difficult to find somewhere closer to term.

You may be asking a lot, particularly at this time of year. Although rents have fallen - ask for a reduction if the house doesn't seem up to it.

Not to sour the experience, as I am sure you will come across some decent ones - but after 7 years I've learned to be careful. There are some nasty characters who love to list properties right around now to hook people on a last-ditch. Some of them are honestly disgusting, and I have seen a good share of them. Be especially careful around Beaufield, Kingsbry and Railpark (if only I could name.....). Check out the PRTB faq (prtb.ie) and know your entitlements before closing any deal. Make sure they will issue receipts or sign your rentbook. All landlords are required by law to register with the PRTB, and to provide you with their PPS number in the process (Residential tenancies act 2004 - which also covers obligations for upkeep and rentbooks). You will need PPS details for your rent-1 form also to claim tax relief.

I have found it a decent measure over the years - if they seem shaky on the PPS issue, best walk away. To those who have their affairs in order, the PPS number is a non-issue, and they tend to be the ones with an active interest in the state of the property also so... Just be prepared, and careful!

What do you mean by last ditch? You have me totally paranoid now, ha.

Dont be, you will be fine! Just be prepared is all, know your entitlements. By 'last ditch' i meant people arriving late in the rush looking for houses.

I didn't get on campus accommodation but I got the list of off campus house sharing but I only want to live with first years as they will be in the same situation as me. So is anyone interested in sharing a house?Or any free rooms going in a house with first years??

I'm a first year, and there is a gorgeous room available in the house I'm staying in for 90euro a week. The guy I'm living with is not in the college himself, but you wouldn't be the only first year. I can PM you with more details if you're interested in viewing.

If you don't get the chance to live with other first years, don't panic. Everyone has done first year and if you're living with a second or third year, they will understand the nerves you feel cos they went through it too!
Call into the residence office or email them in, they might be able to give you some advice! :)

hi, maybe you guys might be interested but i've got a spare bed in our house, its just off main street and back lane. the location is lovely, close to everything. the room is twin and there is a male already in,we'd be looking for aprox e100 pw as the rent would include bills and some meals. pm for details if you're interested. it would probably suit someone looking for short term or maybe a first year or international student.:)

well to be honest its pretty open if you like staying with us it could be longer term, if you fancy just a month or so thats ok too, if you're really interested the best thing would be to call round and have a cup of tea and a biccie and see if you like the place:)

Well it's not actually for me. Have a few friends looking but it would be for the whole year and I get the impression that that isn't what you're offering?

yeah, i understand where you're coming from but tbh i've had a scour on daft and most twin rooms i've come across are about 70 and up and they don't include bills or grub! we've got a really great location literally off the main street, and for bills and most grub included i thought it was fair enough especially if its just a short term thing.
