    Hi guys,

Does anyone know where is a good place to see in france except paris.
Im goin to paris for 4 days but am now thinkin off continuing on from there for another 5 days but unsure where to go. Was hoping to do it cheap like cheap hotel & travel eg train.
Now I know there's probably lots of places to see but maybe somewhere thats not a huge distance from paris so it wouldnt be to long a journey. For eg Nantes is this a good place dont know much about it?
If anyone could give me a few tips/ideas I would really appreciate it & im goin to paris on the 3rd sept.

    Cheers;)

I was just going to suggest Nantes. I love the place. Its not a big place, but its pleasant, there are some nice museums, restaurants and its pretty.

I was camping near by so can't recommned any places to stay however.

Marseilles, which is almost as far from Paris that you can get by going south, is about 3 hours on a train, so don't limit yourself based on distance alone.

With an extra 5 days you can do a lot. I'd head south, taking the train to Toulouse and spend a few days between there and Perpigan. Or take the train to La Rochelle by the coast and then down to Bordeaux.

Sounds like a good idea. Thanks.
Would you know what are the trains that head south all is there loads of different ones?? Is there a certain website I can check about times etc?

I find the German train website (yup, the German one) best for all things train related in Europe. www.bahn.de
This is a good site too http://www.seat61.com/

Would recommend the Loire Valley, very beautiful, lots of Chateaux and some great towns and cities. Not far to travel from Paris by train, much more to do there than around Nantes, that is just my opion but of course it depends on what you are looking for.

Not very easy to get around the castles though without a car.

Take the TGV down to Marseilles-A wonderfull fast and exciting train journey! And as said already only 3 hrs and you are on the french riviera.
When booking make sure it's the TGV you are on and not the slow train.

You could do the cheapest car hire possible at marseilles station [try argos] and drive up the A8 motorway to Nice or Monaco.
You have a few days so it's all doable

Thanks for all the info guys its great. I have been lookin at the TGV and it seems pricey enough to travel anywhere on it. is this always the case? Any other cheaper trains to take? Dont fancy flying as its time wasting sitting in an airport etc. Would just be easier to hop on a train at our own leisure whenever we are finshed in paris.

Spent a few weeks this summer in Lorraine, gorgeous scenic region much more relaxing than Paris.

If you do decide to get the TGV to Marseilles, don't stay in the city centre whatever you do, worst part of France with the exception of Paris northern suburbs in my experience
