NUIM PGDE 2010-2011

    Hello.

I have created this thread in the hope that it serves as a base for anyone and everyone to read/post any information they have or questions about the PGDE starting in September in NUIM.

I myself am starting this course in NUIM this year and, as time passes, I'm finding myself getting increasingly nervous. Am I alone?

I am however very anxious to see what will happen, how things work in the teaching world, what the course itself will be like and just how many paper balls/sticky cola bottles get thrown at me while trying to teach :).

Many people have posted threads saying that it is a hectic, stressful but enjoyable and rewarding year which will fly by, partially due to the NUIM structure of the PGDE where Mondays and Fridays are school days, whereas Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Thursdays are college days.
If i recall (from a post i read) correctly, the 2 week block teaching period after the new year is the most stressful of all. So I'm nervously thinking of that period of time at the back of my head.

I would also welcome comments from anybody that has completed the PGDE recently (in NUIM preferably) to try ease the nervousness/anxiety of us soon-to-be PGDE students.

Lastly, I would like to congradulate everyone that has succesfully got onto the PGDE in NUIM and wish them all the best for the forthcoming year.
    See you in September! ;)

I think I can fulfill that role.... >:D

RUN AWAY NOW! IT'S A TRAP! PREPARE TO DIE! EVERYONE! GET TO DA CHOPPA!

    *cough*

I mean...yeah. <_< In all seriousness, it's a very tough year but there's no reason to get nervous. Just try and keep ahead on the workloads and you should be fine. And what I'd say is that regardless of what happens with the course, it's a means to an end.

I'll be keeping a close eye on this topic though to see if the same flaws still exist in the next year as did this year.

    Hi there

Well done on securing places for this years PGDE.

I did this course in NUIM last year. As you lot are beginning your journey on the PGDE ours is just ending with our graduation around the corner.

If I could give you two pieces of advice they would be that:

there will be a lot of moaning and negativity from some people - try to avoid them. They will bring you down and with a course as demanding as this one you can't afford to waste your time with that

You will get out of this course exactly what you put into it.

In terms on NUIM, well I loved it. Never have I had such a positive experience where lecturers are willing to help you, ANSWER your emails and give you decent, relevant feedback. And I've done postgrad courses with small numbers of students before!!

Take a look at the PGDE 2009-10 thread (wasn't very active I'm afraid - only a few of us here I think!!) for some more info.

    Best of luck!

Oh and another note - I'm sure you're joking postgrad1, but on the off chance that you're not I should warn you to be very careful of talking about college, lectures, school or students either here or on facebook or moodle. They do read them and one or two people were pulled up on this last year. This is a professional course after all. :)

EDIT: I am also selling some of my old books on adverts if anyone is interested!

Thanks for the advice Peanuthead but i was joking.. I would NEVER under any circumstances post anything about college/lecturers etc online..

Looking forward to a challanging year,

    Best of Luck everyone:)

I'll be on the course in nuim too!!I've heard that maynooth is harder than most others for the dip but that if you put the work in, its great. Just hope I'll be able to do this and hold down a job..educating yourself is expensive! Has everyone been to their schools? Walking into the staffroom just felt odd, hoping by the end of this year, it'll all feel natural :)
    best of luck

    Hi there,

I have just began the NUIM PGDE today myself and I am delighted to see a forum up so we can all have a chat about how our year is going. I have to say today was great and every lecture I went to was informative and positive. My nerves have been somewhat settled and now I am looking forward to getting started with the year.

Best of luck to you all:)

em it's a bit sinister that this thread went dead so soon into the course! I'm hoping to get the Dip in Maynooth this year (2011) and was really looking forward to reading all about the current crop of students but alas, nothing!

Is everyone crazy busy, too traumatized or what?!
