Parrot MKi9200 installed

I bought a new car this year which had an integrated stereo without an Aux in or any sort of iPod option. As the AC controls were part of the radio it would have been expensive to swap it out for a new head unit. So I bought an FM transmitter, which did not take long to get on my nerves ,bad quality sound etc. So I did some research on my options and the one that seemed to make the most sense was the Parrot MKi9200 car kit with ipod connector. However I got some mixed reviews on the kit, and some put me off buying it. But the FM transmitter got the better of me so I bought the Parrot kit on amazon.co.uk for about 170 euro and a adapter cable on ebay, as I did not want to cut the original wiring. So here is how I got on.
It took about an hour to an hour and a half to install, due to the removal of the head unit and the surrounding dash pieces. And due to the adapter cable it was plug and play.
So after a few days spent with it installed how do I rate it. Very good. I was some what expecting poor to bad sound quality ,but it turned out to be very good, I could not fault it comparing it to other systems I have had in my previous cars, from Sony to Pioneer. As for the bluetooth car kit it is very good ,and the quality of sound it very good with no complaints on either side of the conversation, and very easy to use and setup.
The only complaint I would have is with the startup time is about 10 seconds from key turn to when the music starts, but I can very easily live with this . I would recommend the Parrot MKi9200 for anyone looking to get a bluetooth car kit, or add ipod connection to a OEM head unit without AUX in.

    Got to agree with that

Although I got to say it was annoying to have to purchase it in the first place. I had to get one for my A4. If you know the model it is the one with red dot-matrix style info display as opposed to full colour MMI display (hence on option for a factory iPod integration).

It would have been great to have had a simple ‘aux’ jack socket on the dash and an ‘aux’ button on the head unit as that’s all I really wanted. I would have been happy to control the iPod manually as opposed to through the stereo. (I just wanted to be free of those b”£$^y FM modulators – pure rubbish IMO)

That was my opinion – the parrot is v good. I’ve had parrot Bluetooth before so no change there. The IPod integration is good to use. As a pure novelty I am getting a great kick out of playing songs wireless through Bluetooth (not good for power I know, on longer trips it gets plugged in)

Another little thing is that you can fiddle around with the display on it. You can send a photo by Bluetooth to the parrot to change the background display. I took a pic. of the grille badge for that ultimate integrated look.

these posts are a very public way of showing how bad a persons typing can be !!

what I ment to say above

1, was that the car had NO option for ipod integartion

2, I allready experienced Parrot bluetooth PHONE systems before.

I get complaints too about the Mic, but you have to turn the volume up, which then turns the Mic sensitivity up also, and sorts the problems. Also, if you've got air blowing through the vents, turn that off which making the call.

Version 1.6 of the firmware is out for those that have the kit.

Must check my firmware again, although i did only update about 7 weeks back.

turning the volume up. might try that so. Never have the air vents on when in call mode. It annoys me.

I updated to this last week and it was a vast improvment allround. I couldnt fault it..
