    Lads,

I was under the impression there is no problem with amazon.co.uk shipping a laptop to Ireland? However when i tryed ordering this for my sister last night, it simply refused to ship to an Irish address, anyone know what the problem might be?

Strange, they certainly used to. On this page, it says they don't deliver MP3 players or TV equipment, but no mention of laptops. Might be worth emailing them to find out what's going on?

May well be an agreement with the manufacturer not to export.

Amazon themselves ship to Ireland (for free).

However that laptop isn't sold by Amazon; it's sold by Ballicom.

It is now unfortunately, but Sunday, when i tryed to order it, it was definitely being sold by amazon..

Right, just tryed this with a few other laptops just to see and its the same for all of the them, no matter what the brand :(

Thisis a real shame, thought amazon had stopped all this no shipping to Ireland rubbish!

Just checked it there and you're right. That's strange alright.

I know someone who bought a laptop off them very recently, can't be more than a week or two ago. I bought some components off the recently and a HDD literally last week.

Maybe just some temporary glitch today, or maybe they have stopped shipping laptops here. Strange

A real shame if they have, they're seldom beaten on price really...

Any update on this? It kind of throws a spanner in the works of my laptop buying plans. :(

Awww....come on! Why are we always in crapper when it comes to electronics? Just when I'm in the market for a laptop too. I'll have to ship it to my sis in England I guess.

I sent them an email asking why they had suddenly stopped shipping all laptops to Ireland and got some useless reply from some guy working off a script.

Funny thing is that I ordered an Acer laptop from them in May, so I went into my account, clicked on the exact item and tried to bring it to the order stage. Not possible, 'cannot ship to selected address'. Exact same thing I already bought off them.

Tried a few electronic items which I also know for a fact they were shipping here as of a couple of weeks ago, and no joy either. Not everything mind. Very annoying all the same.

COMMENTS: As you said in the email:

Amazon is committed to making its products and services available to the widest range of customers. Before we start shipping a new product category to a country, it is necessary to ensure the operational infrastructure and transportation services are in place to provide the level of service that customers have come to expect from Amazon. As we now have these in place, we are in a position to deliver these items to the Republic of Ireland.

However i still get errors when trying to ship the item to ireland!

What you guys think of this?
Pretty sure there are no export laws that would cause a problem between UK and Ireland (i could be wrong?)

and as we know its not only one manufacturer's laptop thats having this problem and i highly doubt amazon lost distribution rights for every manufacturers laptop

oh and the laptop he mentioned was not the one i inquired about, i wanted this one: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pavilion-dv7-3105ea-Notebook-17-3-inch-Processor/dp/B0033PRQI8/ref=sr_1_1?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1284156724&sr=1-1

i'm confused. is it just certain manufacturers or is it a blanket ban as it were?

Also what has changed since the 26th of August(when i successfully bought a toshiba) with regard to "export/warranty laws"?

Have also tried a number of different lappy's, printers and basically anything in the "computers and office" section and they wont ship anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭teddy b123

as you said it appears to be a blanket ban on all that section but what gets me is when reading:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/help/customer/display.html?nodeId=524836
Baby, Beauty, Clothing, DIY & Tools, Electronics, Musical Instruments, Health (excluding medicine), Home & Garden, Jewellery, Kitchen, Office Products, Shoes, Sports and Watches items

United Kingdom (England, Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales), [.....] Ireland (Republic of) ......

    So Electronics are in!

    and

    O
    ther Delivery Restrictions

Additional delivery restrictions may apply to specific items or sub-categories due to the specific nature of some products. These products might be restricted to delivery to the UK or mainland UK only (excludes Northern Ireland and the UK islands) or to only some other countries. For example large items, such as any item that is 30 kg or heavier, e.g. a widescreen television (larger than 26") or some fitness equipment can only be delivered to mainland UK. The following items can only be delivered to addresses within the UK - children's clothing, children's shoes, children's car seats, blank media items, such as CDs, DVDs and MP3 players, safety equipment and medicines. Light bulbs and TV equipment cannot be shipped to Ireland (Republic of). Please note that unless otherwise specified electrical equipment and appliances sold on Amazon.co.uk are sold with electrical plugs compatible with United Kingdom electrical outlets only. You will need a plug adapter if you wish to use these products outside the United Kingdom.

and i know of no laptop that comes in a box heavier than 30KG or larger than 26 inch so this isnt whats stopping them!

are they maybe classing laptops as TV Equipment and thats why?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 399 ✭✭teddy b123

Rang them again, was talking to some people in America who gave various excuses which if i may say so myself are pathetic, these were ranging from The electricity plugs in the UK are not compatible with the plugs here to its because we have no postcode system in place! was cut off once too and im sincerely hoping it was accidental!

oh and when i asked do amazon have a complaints department i was told no

i was like no?? you must have one, every decent company has one

As far as I can tell, tried 30-odd, no laptops are shipping to Ireland. But I've been assured a few times they haven't changed their polices and its only certain items by some manufactures that don't work.

Got one email in which they admitted there was a problem:
I’m sorry to hear about the system error that prevented you from placing an order for Asus Eee PC 1215N 12.1 inch Netbook to your address in Ireland.

We are aware of this issue, and our developers are working on a solution. These errors are normally fixed quite quickly; perhaps you could try again shortly.

Again, I apologise for this inconvenience.

But that was a week ago and nothing has changed, but at least it sounds like someone over there is aware of it.

Got through to someone from amazon in Cork :O, made my day, according to him its a problem with the website and not something amazon have done intentionally. he said there has already been calls in about it and he's added the laptop i want to the list, also said something about the more people that ring in and complain about it, the higher priority it will be given! but there's no point trying to explain anything to anyone in the US call centre as they are clueless as you can see above ^_^, seems to be you are put through to a call centre at random!

and its obvious us Irish consumers do not complain enough

So I can still buy a laptop battery right?

And if so, are they usually reliable? Heres the one I'm gonna buy. Its not dodgy getting batteries of Amazon is it? I know its not Amazon who sell it but they fulfill the order.

i rang 00448004961081 and managed to get through to cork, don't think there's any direct number for cork.
when you get through (and if theyre irish) ask them to call you back (so you dont waste money on the call to uk)

    Edit:
    Eircom Phonebook:

    Amazon Cs Ireland Limited
Cork Airport Bus Pk Kinsale Rd Cork

    * (021)4316985

haven't tried it though so not sure if it gets through to them

Guess who was at amazon's customer service center in Cork today :D

and guess who was treated with utmost hostility by the "worlds most customer centric company"

    ME

got to speak to one of the customer service managers (even though the receptionist wasnt too keen on going to get me one and insisted i rang the uk number she gave me on a post it (one that would just connect me to a random call centre)) for all of two minutes, was told i had to go through the proper channels. ie ring the uk number i was given, and explain it to some useless person there!
So we parted, he went back to supervising, i went outside and rang but so i was still in view of the receptionist, call 1 Philippines, call 2 Philippines, calls 3 4 and 5, yeah you guessed it Philippines!! call 6, CORK Success!
gave my details to the nice woman (they can only be nice on the phone it seems) and asked her to ring me back and then get my call escalated (i was not going to waste a fortune ringing the uk from my mobile) i was put on hold and then the supervisor outside came out to ask me was everything ok (why i hadn't left yet more like) finally my call got put through to a supervisor for the technical department who told me there was nothing wrong with the site from the notes he has in front of him (ie my and other peoples emails and calls had gotten nothing logged or on a to be fixed list)
he then put me on hold and tried ordering various items (from amazon and from 3rd party sellers that would ship their electronics to ireland, and you guessed it, nothing worked) so he got in touch with some people while he had me on hold and is going to get this sorted and call me back himself.

meanwhile amazon have stopped selling the laptop themselves and only 3rd party sellers are doing it for 300£ more! :(:mad:

and for anyone that doesn't believe i really went to amazon's call center heres some photos:

    10gjrsn.jpg

    1zp0hzs.jpg

    33ug1sw.jpg

oh and before i left i gave a knock on the door to talk to the receptionist to thank her but she didn't come to open it and signaled her other female colleague who was approaching the door not to and she got a "big" male colleague next to her to do it while she stood next to her desk, he asked me what was up and i said i just wanted to thank her (the receptionist) for all her help earlier (loud enough so she could hear). (i sure hope she felt real stupid for doing what she did!!!)

To be honest, Amazon have lost a lot of my respect for them today
id love to hear any of your opinions on this and so much for being the worlds most customer centric company.
