Twice in the last couple of weeks I have seen items on sale on adverts.ie where the seller has bought the item and then almost immediately marked it up 100% and offered it for resale.
One item was a pair of books - originally sold at €145 now on sale for €300, another was a medal (originally €152 now €300).

In both cases the original advert was still on the web - in both cases it was either the same photograph used or new photographs of obviously the same item (ie a stain in a certain place on a certain page etc).

I am sure dealers will find no issue with this, and argue 'it's a free market' etc.

I have also seen it on other forums re militaria where someone buys a grouping splits it up and marks it up x2 or x3 and almost immediately offers it for re-sale at an inflated value, typically regular collectors go out of their way to ignore those items to discourage this but I was wondering about the thoughts of other collectors here ? Agree/disagree - expect it or ignore those items to discourage this ?

I have no issue with this but it seems a bit daft to re-advertise the items on Adverts.ie! That said there seems to be a lot of overpriced items in the collectibles & antiques section of adverts.ie which is fairly typical of the unrealistic expectations of Irish sellers.

Just to clarify . . . - the 2 I am referring to - one was bought on ebay (though it was mentioned on boards.ie in the militaria section) & re-advertised here using the same ebay photo, the other was bought on a rare books site but re-advertised here and obviiously the exact same pair of books.

its up to the seller realy, if he can get the price for it good luck to him but as a bit of a collector i would avoid it as i know the price he paid for it and with that particular medal its hard to tell if its real. we all have paid more for something than we wanted to but did because we wanted it and we have also got bargans that makes up for the over priced stuff.

but as you know Molar an item is only worth what you are willing to pay yourself.
