I just heard from a friend of mine that the legendary Professor Barry Raftery passed away last night. He was a great archaeologist and a very good friend to students in UCD.

Very sad to hear this. He really was so influential; he truly inspired me. It was an honour to have had him as a lecturer.

This is exactly what I wanted to say. He was a truly inspirational guy. The enthusiasm he had for his subject matter reeled you in to what he had to say. I always wanted to learn more for him. Tis very sad indeed
