Passat Radiator....Again

About 2 months ago the radiator was leaking badly on my passat. Replaced it at main dealer. Expensive.
Now it is about 2 months later, and same thing has now happened again, one leaking radiator.
Garage say it is nothing to do with them, as something has damaged the radiator (local non vw garage said it was from the rear though...), and that a lower tray which may have protected it was missing. When i asked then should that not have been replaced at the time of radiator replacement, they then said fan was damaged too, so could have come from there.
This sound odd, or am i paranoid?

If the fan was damaged they should have replaced the fan - If the undertray was missing they should have replaced the tray.
The tray underneath stops stones and debris getting up into your engine bay. It also keeps the engine cleaner, if that bothers you.
Are you driving over bad roads? building sites maybe - this would explain the damaged rad.

No mention of fan being damaged, or tray being missing previously. No, i wouldnt drive over bad roads at all, generally shannon-limerick and back again, and town driving around both areas.
Car is lowered though, but i would be careful driving around not to damage the car as the sump in passats is notoriously low.

Sorry, i read that wrong - or did I?
Anyway, if the car is lowered, I would just make sure that the lower tray is secure. I can't really offer you any other advice sorry.

No you read it right, apparently was not there when they replaced the radiator originally. That is my issue. If it was a protective cover, and was missing, wouldnt there be a duty to mention that? Im sure it wouldnt have been too expensive, and i would have gone for it.

corrosion is a common problem on the radiators especially on UK imports. If the car has A/C due to the vibration from the diesel engine the a/c radiator can vibrate causing a leak to occur to the main radiator assembly.

I got a quote from a main VW dealer not so long ago for a radiator (has to be ordered from the depot in dublin- 215 inc VAT

    From Eurocar parts - £70 + delivery

They should have replaced the engine cover and I would be looking for it to be replaced. Is there as noise insulation and for aero dynamic properties.

Its very well me saying that, but any laws or rules going to help me with this?
IE vw standard policy to replace it etc?
