How long is needed to taper for a half marathon

    Is there a hard and fast rule to tapering for a half marathon?.I'm running a half on Sunday but don't intend to taper much as this is not a race i'm focused on and so intend to train through using it as a med-long run,However i hope to run in the cliffs of moher in september where i hope to be in better shape and will focus on this race as prep for Dublin

    I dont think you should taper for either as it will interfere with your training for Dublin which I presume is your main goal.

    If they where you primary objectives then a 2-3 week taper would be good.

    The marathon program I'm following has two half-marathons included instead of a long run on a Sunday, the first one said to run the distance faster than a normal long run while the second was to enter a race & go for it! No tapering but it thankfully had the Monday afterwards as an extra rest day.

    i'm going to take you're advice and train through the half this weekend,However i will be asking the same question next year when i plan to try and run a fast half.
