I want to change careers, but it's a nightmare, any advice?

For almost a year now I've wanted to become a surveyor, but I find it so hard to find any full time courses, or apprenticeships or any training whatsoever in this field, so I just gave up looking and stuck with my old job, even though I hate it, I just said to myself that it's a job and at least I have one with the way the country is at the moment.

How do I get out of this hole I'm in? I know not everyone has a job at the moment, but I would like to take this time to study something new and get a good career for when (hopefully) this economic crisis is over.

Anyone experiencing/experienced the same thing, could you give any advice?

There's a full time building surveying course in DKIT. Here's the link: http://ww2.dkit.ie/schools_and_departments/engineering/construction_surveying/courses/dk830
