    Hi.

I have a sky+ box. My only problem is I only have one feed coming into it. I know the most logical thing to do is get a multi-output lnb and have a second feed into the box, however.......

i was wondering...could connect the sat cable into a splitter and have the 2 inputs for then going into the sky+ box?

I myself cannot see how this would not work as all i am doing is splitting a signal.

If this can't be done, why not? I would be extremely interested to know exactly why this could not be done?

    Cheers

    JM

Hi John, if you use a splitter on an RF signal you will drop the power levels to an un-useable level for the Sky box. The act itself of splitting the signal will reduce the power but also the connection you make will also drop the power another bit if it is in any way shoddy.

But those are terrible. Also the OP would STILL need a Quad LNB. The Stacker/Destacker won't share a single LNB output either.

MUCH better to run 2nd cable.

You CAN'T split the signal. Not because of power. If you could split, there is enough power to split for four boxes.

Each channel sets the LNB to 13V or 18V (Vertical or Horizontal reception) and 22kHz tone off or on (Low part or high part of satellite band, split at 11.7GHz).

So if you simply "split" it there is a 1 in 4 chance one tuner or both will be damaged or get the wrong band or polarity and thus not receive the channel.

You absolutely need a Quad LNB.

Sorry i never noticed that the OP needed a Quad.
I have used the Stacker De Stacker units with out fail on many a job I am sure other installers use them aswel. I do agree that a second cable would be better but in some cases running a second cable is not an option

I also have used many a Stacker/De Stacker unit wherever a second run isnt possible without any problems.

However they should only be used on proper satellite cable, no lower than RG6 grade, preferably CT100 or equivalent is better. There are different versions available also for different lenghts of cable run..

But as Watty rightly stated where possible run a second cable....
