Should our manager be paying us for training?

So I work in a retail outlet in a shopping centre. Our shop is getting refurbished soon and we'll be closed for a week. While we're closed, my manager has suggested that it be a perfect time to gather all the staff together for a few days of training. The only thing is, should we be getting paid for this?

If these few days work aren't paid, I can't afford to go in, as it costs me money to get into work. Does anyone know the legalities surrounding this, if there is any at all? Am I right to refuse to come in if there isn't pay?

Just thought someone here might have a bit of advice for me. Thanks.

Has your manager told you that you're not getting paid? What gave you the idea that you may not be paid?
