Where do you get them? I'm refering to the type you carry on your shoulder. I've worked using them before and the quality is immensely better than even the best of handy cams, but have failed to find a good place to buy one or two.

    Where are you based?

Are you looking for new or used?

    What's your budget?

There are plenty on online places to buy them and a few decent retailers in Dublin.

In Limerick so Dublin isn't an option. Any links?

Can't help you with anything in Limerick but if you're OK with buying online here's a few places to start, some in Ireland, some in UK.

    http://www.proav.co.uk/

    http://www.mitcorp.com/public/show_category.php?categoryID=1&xdev=Camcorders

    http://www.camerakit.ie/index.asp

    http://www.jigsaw24.com/products/broadcast-and-pro-video/camcorders/camcorders/professional-camcorders

and of course there's always ebay :)

Don't forget to budget for extra batteries, memory cards (if it's a solid state cam), tripod, on board mic & light etc etc etc etc etc (when you get into Pro AV gear the list of "stuff" you can buy is endless)

Those sites are all great. Usually get stuff on ebay but looked at cameras there and aside from the fact that there were no large ones, all the cameras there were counterfeit brands from Hong Kong.

Another thing (one of the many) to consider is buying from a registered European dealer or buying what's called a "Grey" import.

Grey imports are exactly the same camera but they are imported and sold through outlets that may not be registered with the manufacturer and in most cases are a fair bit cheaper, therefore, said manufacturer will not offer a warranty on grey imports.

Think of it as buying a used Ford from an indy dealer rather than an official Ford dealership.

Yea the price tag is unfortunate, may have to stick with a high end hd handy cam with a 35mm converter.

If you in the City, try Whelans or Savons they should be able to stock them as a special order.
