    Hi all,

There is a brand new beginner only MMA class starting in informed performance gym on the 2nd of September. The class runs for the month until October 1st and costs €65. This course is for beginners only. We have regular classes that beginners can slot into at any time but based on feedback we've recieved, people feel that much better knowing everyone around them is in the same boat as novices :)

When: Mondays and Thursdays at 6.30pm
    Where: informed performance gym, Glasnevin
    How much: €65

For more info call 085-8320174 or mail barry@informedperformance.com

Barry what days and times are your grappling classes? I can't access your time table on your site.

Mondays nogi- 7pm (moving to 7.30pm soon)
    Tuesdays nogi- 12pm
    Wednesdays gi- 7pm
    Thursdays gi- 12pm
    Fridays Open Mat- 6pm
    Saturdays Open Mat- 12pm

There's always someone on the mat though. A lot of the lads are shiftworkers so there's some makeshift sessions going on most days in some form or another that people would have no problem letting others tag along to.

Yes, the other side of Broombridge is always daunting, it's a kind of purgatory between Cabra and Finglas :P

I want to try get in a bit of grappling from time to time, I've been threatening to go back to it for ages.

And when you get over your fear of flying, I'll get you up to a bit of Judo :p

Best of luck with the grappling. If this ankle drags on much longer I'll be looking at some Gi comp's to focus my energies & motivation.

It's not the flying, it's the landing i'd be afraid of

Thanks Mart, I have to make time for it now!

This might sound like a stupid question and forgive my ignorance but what actually happens in an mma class?

Barry cracks bad jokes for a start!

(I'll let him give you a proper answer!)

That might be better suited in its own thread, but seen as though this is Barry's maybe he will inform you of what he does in his MMA classes as an add on to the new class time table he posted.

I crack great jokes and then we train.

This course is a broad introduction to Mixed Martial Arts, so what we do on any given night will depend on what aspect we're focussing on- stand up, clinch or ground. For example after our warm up on a stand up night we might go over some fundamental boxing skills and then train them on the pads with partners. On a ground night we might do a submission and so on.

In general training, we specialise much more. We have specialist BJJ classes for ground training and Muay Thai classes for stand up. So our MMA classes are taken up more with clinch work and merging the ranges, game plans, tactics for striking on the ground and loads of other stuff too numerous to mention.

We also train the 5 deadly moves of informed performance- monkey, crane, wild boar, chimpanzee and fruit fly.

Someone just pointed out to me that I made a hash of the title post. It's actually beginning next Thursday not next Wednesday. Can a friendly moderator change the title post for me?

Uh I see no moderator has seen this so BUMP!!!

Can someone change the thread title so it reads Thursday 2nd September? Thanks.

If you're looking to come down tonight, the class starts at 7pm but try to arrive a little earlier to get sorted and have a chat to me or one of the guys.

    Barry
