Hey, I am awating my college offers that arrive on monday and a potential course is applied psychology in IADT.

I have a good idea what the course is like (altho info from anyone in actually doing it is always good!), so i was just wondering if anyone could tell me what IADT is like and what there is to do, sports, societys etc.

What sort of things do people do between lectures etc.

I dont know anyone who has been to IADT and would appriciate the help:)

    Thanks!

Honestly, it can be hit and miss on a college wide basis. There simply isn't the numbers of students in the college to host huge events all the time! But on a smaller scale, I'd say it's pretty good. After a few weeks you'll find yourself out on the lash with people in your class every week. There's always posters and flyers around the campus promoting club nights in Dublin.
The Chapel (students union hang out place) is usually buzzing. There's a pool table, Wii, projector for movies, anyone can plug their iPod in for music, table tennis. They also aim to have an "event" every Thursday. It could be something as small as a movie or board games, to a band or comedian.
Don't forget to join societies and clubs! The Poker club play almost every day!
As for college wide events, there's the Freshers Ball, Halloween Ball, Christmas Ball, Rag Ball, Shag Ball, Formal Ball and End of Year Ball, so lots of opportunities to mix with other courses.
It is a small campus, so you gotta get involved to get the most out of it :D

Set up the tennis or badminton club! Whoever decides to set up a sport must find a venue and a trainer. When you come to IADT, have a chat with the Club and Socs guy and he'll tell you everything you need to know and how much funding is available. It's pretty easy once you got people interested enough to participate every week.
There are other sports clubs like rugby, hockey and jugger, and pretty much all others are non-art related! There's Sci-Fi, LGBT, Mature Students, Pirates (who go camping and drink rum ;)), Surfing (take trips around Ireland), Snowboarding (went to France last year IIRC), Drama (put on 2 plays last year), Dance Soc. And there'll be new ones in September I'm sure.

JimiWonderDoor - I THINK there is astro turf on the grounds that you need to book in advance to play on. Don't quote me on that as I'm not exactly the sporting kind, but I think there is.

As stated before, clubs and events are a great place to meet people from the college and get to know folks from your class better. Freshers Ball is ready to go thanks to the Ents officer (Shane Gillen) on the 22nd of September so you've got a great kicking off point for a bit 'o' socialising.

More details on the Facebook event page; http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=150171998342559&index=1

IADT is what you make it.

Are there too few people for 1st year soccer/gaelic teams or is it a selection of the entire college, and if there is a team do you mean they train on astroturf (my knees and elbows have unhappy memories of that word)
Pirates sounds interesting but if I was to have a job on weekends I suppose that'd kinda not be a runner...
Do most people head home weekends or what's the craic?
    thanks:)

You won't know until Clubs and Socs Day. All the clubs and socs set up in the Chapel for a few hours so you can go around and chat to whoever is running them! There is/have been successful hockey, jugger and possibly Gaelic clubs already.

As for going home/staying up, it's all personal preference.
