Why is the ISTAF meeting not part of the Diamond League? It has been part of the Golden Four and Golden League ever since the concept started in 1993.

IIRC, I read last year that Berlin decided not to join the Diamond League circuit (this year, at least) due to financial constraints. Sorry, I can't remember where I saw the article.
Doha, Rome and Berlin were the last venues to be added to the DL circuit, but Berlin didn't fulfill the criteria, presumably due to the financial issue.

Thats a shame as historically it is one of the most prestigious meets, along with Weltklasse, Bislett Games, Memorial Van Damme and Golden Gala. It deserves to be part of the Diamond League.

Yeah, it was definitely financial issues that scuppered ISTAF's move into the Diamond League. It still had pretty class fields today in an awesome stadium.

More to come off, perhaps in Rieti. The guy is just perfect for 800m.

One of the top 5 most impressive track records. I didn't expect that to be beaten for quite a while. Coe had it for 16 years, that being one of the best ever, and then Kipketer really tore that apart and now his is gone. This guy
is only 22, so I think it's reasonable to expect a sub 1:41 from him.

I just wonder how long it wil be before one of the European countries
tries to lure him to their shores?

I'd be more worried about the likes of Qatar, Bahrain, Turkey etc luring the athletes away, i.e. countries who cant produce any decent athletes of their own (Nevin Yanit being one of the exceptions).

The IAAF should really be putting a stop to that lark. The sight of Shaheen in 2003 getting his gold medal to the backdrop of the Qatar National Anthem, a tune he never heard before in his entire life, was farcical.

There's very little chance of Rudisha running for another country. It would mean he'd have to miss the Olympiics and the enxt two world championships which means there isn't much benefit for the country involved. It'd be a huge gamble on his part to bank on being in great shape still in three years time and also having run a world record he can probably earn enough to not be tempted.

I wouldn't read too much into the age thing. Either Kenyans peak very early or there's a lot of dodgy passports going around out there.

Out of curiosity, how do you know this?

I dont know this. I just remember the funny reaction of the BBC commentry team in 2003 when he got his Gold medal and they were talking about how hilarious it was having him standing there on the podium listening away to an anthem he more than likely has never heard before.

Yeah, it's like he was designed to run 800's!

I heard about Rudisha from an Irish guy who spends time in Kenya in early 2008. He reckoned he would win the Olympics that year and break the WR the year after. It took a couple of years to get there but he was right about the talent.

There is no chance of him changing allegiance. There is no financial reason as he will become a rich man with his abilities and he has no ties (marriage, residency etc) to any other country.

Wowwww is all you can say. Would love to see him breaking it again in Brussels but think he is doing Rieti instead

And barely breathing after it all. Looks so relaxed after such a major effort.

Yes I saw him checking out his average pace and hrm at the 400m mark he didnt seem too happy as the gsp showed he race 807m so the course was long.

I just wonder if this guy was pushed a little more what could he do. From 300 out he is alone, and well alone. Nobody on his shoulder pushing him?

The 1000 metre record surely can be his? He could run a 1:43.50 for 800 and then a 26 second last 200 for a sub 2.10? He certainly has the legs and talent for the extra 200 metres, and who knows in a year or two if he keeps
improving, maybe the 1500 and mile too.
