Questions - Dairy Farming

    Im doing a project for college on dairy farming and cattle production etc. I was working on a farm for 2 weeks but forgot to find out some things so hoping someone on here will know.
    • When does a dairy cow - on average - reach the end of her production life? I presume as they get older there less productive and more require more feed etc then younger animals?
    • At what age are the males castrated? (the ones just fattened up before they go for meat)
    • What age would those go for meat - I think its about 2 years but just want to check.
    • How many days/months after calving is the cow put in calf again?
    • What would be the average amount of milk one holstein friesian cow will produce in one lactation? (just a round up number...)

    6-8 lactations, but it depends.

    8-12 weeks

    At least 40 days - dairy cows, that is

    Depends. 5 to 9,000 litres?
