I see that over in Spain and most of mainland Europe DTT is becoming the common thing. Is it on it's way here in the near future?

I'm currently on NTL analogue package but my channel 4 is gone and girlfriend isn't happy missing big brother!! If I were to purchase a DTT receiver box, eg.http://www.powercity.ie/?par=10-23-SAT02S would I get a decent amount of channels? And Channel 4??

    Cheers

No if you want UK channels Irish DTT is no good. Its a small set up thats coming (tests are on air now). One "MUX" (collection of channels) which will be RTE/TV3/TG4 based and no more than about 8 of them + radio channels.

That link shows UK Freesat which is a free er satellite set up that can be used here, I have no idea why that page is called DTT Satellite Receiver. Well maybe I do - its POWER CITY!

The box you linked is for a satellite receiver; you would need to have a satellite dish installed and connected to the receiver, but it would get you C4 for free, along with all the other free-to-air UK channels.

Cheers for the replies guys. My dad is living over in Spain at the moment and has a DTT box that plugs directly into his TV via scart. I set it up for him last month and there's no satellite dish on his house. he gets roughly 30 channels, is there anything here that's similar to this even if there are fewer channels?

Can I take it then that if I want more then the Irish channels that I'll need a dish or have to sign up with SKY or UPC?

Where are you located? You may be able to get UK channels with a DTT box from NI or Wales depending on where you are.

A Dish and Freesat box is best solution for UK TV. Possibly a Freesat HD PVR even, add HDTV later :) (Will work regular TV via SCART)

I have added the Freeview section below the Saorview and Saorsat sections here http://www.techtir.ie/saortv now. Freesat shortly...

People on Boards here wrote most of the Wikipedia Saorview and Saorsat :)

When you say your channel 4 is gone, do you need to retune it?
Some channels were switched to different frequencies by NTL as they were at the time ( uhf channel 21 and upwards) some time ago.

    See http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=58162943

(Might save you some time and effort if that's the only reason you want to change):D
