Isn't that what the CAB do?

the 'ethnic' group in question seems to have a lot of clout. CAB involvement would lead to cries of state harrassment.

What type of "clout" are you refering to?

we live in very PC times. as Power pointed out any criticism of their weddings will quickly lead to calls of racism and people will back down.

weddings need to be financed. Travelers have no money. that is why they are on social welfare, yet they can somehow finance lavish weddings and few will dare ask any questions ergo they must have clout, power to curb people awkward questions.

i could be wrong, but Power is the female version of Myers, though easier to follow than him.

I know plenty of travellers who are not on social welfare and do indeed contrary to your unfounded assumptions, posses money. I also know plenty of people from the settled community on social welfare who have had lavish weddings. I dont cosider either Imo to have clout.

    Pavee Point:
racism is a combination of power and
prejudice whereby the group with the greater power and influence shapes society
    - it is their assumptions of ‘what is normal’ which becomes society’s underlying
assumptions and this process then excludes those who do not belong to the
    dominant group.

This. It's called the racism/xenophobia/bigot card, and most people won't go near it with a barge-pole.

But 80%+ of travellers are on social welfare. And those travellers who have money - do they pay tax?

But as a member of the settled community myself, I do know some members of the settled community that dont.

they reap all the benefits of society and accept no responsibility. It seems to be part of their culture not to pay tax.

they spend a fortune on wedding and communion dresses. you would think the clothes shop would love to see them coming, but they don't because the travellers will swipe as much as they can when they go into the shop. talk to any clothes shop owner selling these dresses and they will tell you the same.
unlike the settled community they do not view stealing as a problem, but more a sport.

indeed some buffers don't pay tax ut the percentage would not e as high as among the travelling community.

the travellers harm on about discrimmination yet would disown any of tehir community who would be homosexual.

in such recesssionary times can we afford to have peopel who have no intention of working?
if i were to get the dole or live off social welfare and fork out 30,000 for a wedding the authorities would ask questions and my finances would e investigated, but not so for the travellers.

You start off very reasonable, questioning whether its racist to ask questions about travellers weddings and how they get the money to pay for it. then you progress to saying that travellers are a race of theives and scumbags.

In short, you've proven how racism works in modern Ireland. First, criticise the 'PC crowd', thus disparaging any further criticism of your position. Ironically following your exhortation that anyone who resorts to 'PC' is discriminating against you and thus is 'Not PC'. You're using the proverbial criminals methods that you claim to hate so much.

    How predictable.

In no way did you respond to the point I made. Deflection, perhaps?

Is it because he's relating what goes on in the traveller culture thats bugging you?

Whats bugging me is how bigots and racists hide behind the 'poor me, I'm a victim of Liberal political correctness, I'm not racist, of course not'

And then go on to call an entire group of people thieves and scumbags. I've seen it plenty of times, and it never looks all that clever.

Well, maybe when you have opened your own eyes and had a good look around, you will see the wood from the trees. Travellers & their supporters are very adept at playing the "poor ole me" card too. It is very pertinent to question where & how the traveller community fund the extravagant communion, confirmation & wedding occasions. Certainly not from their own resources in the vast majority of cases. Maybe when that question is answered, we will get an insight into the whole "culture".

at no point did I refer to the travelling community as thieves and scumbags.

travellers and their 'liberal' supporters like to play the racism card whenever anyone criticises their lifestyle. very often the latter while supporting travellers like to keep them at arms length.

there are very valid resons why people do no have much time for travellers an dcalling such peopel racist at every turn is becoming tiresome.

I'm sick and tired of bigots hiding behind their nonsensical rubbish:

Does the above statement you have made, not enhance the fact ("we have many races") that travellers are a seperate race?

Without making this personal, I do appreciate that their are elaborate weddings in all walks of life, that certainly raise questions amongst people and probably rightly so.

In relation to travellers however the very fact that they are travellers, always seems to produce a strong sense of negativity amongst some of the settled community and again in some cases probably justified.

IMO it will only be through acceptance of difference, understanding, education and perhaps assimilation to mention but a few, that their will be change.
