Drove one briefly in Germany - it was the 1.8 kompressor I think - E250 CGI. Felt good, I drove it without knowing it was a 1.8 and it felt quick enough considering. Quite fun and responsive for a Merc.

It is well put together and looks quite nice, nicer than the 6 series anyway! Try and get a 6 pot engine though if its in your budget :)

Mercedes have gone away from 6 cylinder for alot of the diesel range which is a bit annoying. You now have to go all the way to a 350 cdi to get a 6 cylinder. Id say 99 out of 100 E Class sales will now be 4 cylinder & that is a terrible development IMO.

I would be strongly thinking of the 350 especially when the co2 emissions are reasonably low.

Edit there dont seem to be a 350 on the coupe...

There isn't an AMG version on the market yet, is there?

I thought the top version was the 500 petrol?

I had a test drive in a an E250cdi, and I have to say, unless you're going racing, i can't see any merit in a bigger-engined one.

Plenty of power, torque, quiet, economical, and bloody cheap to tax !

    Couldn't fault it, tbh.......

I assume he meant the sport version of the standard car which has AMG styling.

What Merc doesn't have a foot-operated parking brake ? Even my 01 E-class had one.

I believe all the latest models have some form of hill hold system so really the parking brake is just for parking. THe pedal and release handle is a mad setup & simply cannt work in a manual car unless you have the other hill hold systems.
