    Hello there.

I can't for the life of me understand why there was so much hype when the iPhone range was released. Like people q'd up for the phone outside outlets. Essentially when you break it down its a phone which plays music. So can someone please enlighten me as to why you would buy this phone considering the battery life is woeful in comparsion to other phones for example Nokia, call quality is diplorable espeicallly on the iphone4. I can't see attraction to this phone am I the only one who doesnt see what the hype is about?!

For me I queued for about 2 hours to get it on release day. I had a 3GS and wanted the 4 for a few reasons. I liked the design of it, the camera, jailbreakin which really makes the phone a whole lot better, the way it works but most of all I love gadgets

Have you actually used the I-phone?

To say it is just to play music is silly and shows you don't really know what you are talking about....:pac::pac::pac::pac:

    have a nice day :)

Actually, for a smart-phone, the battery life is reasonable, better than some others, and to call it just a phone that plays just music is ridiculous.

Why does this concern you, are you worried that you are missing out, or are you just annoyed that people are free to buy the things they want?

Isn't it good that we live in a country where nobody else is allowed to dictate what you can and can't buy, or would you rather force others to chose the same as you?

I think you've been grossly misinformed.

It's a phone with one of the best UI's (user interfaces) out there, an as-yet unmatched (although some may disagree with me) touchscreen technology, features an App Store with over 200,000 apps and still growing (from games to productivity to document processing) and the various areas for emails, photos, videos, music tend to be smoother a lot of competitors.

It's not without it's flaws, but no phone is. It's certainly captured the imagination of a lot of people.

I bought mine (the 1st model) in the US not long after release and it's still a superb phone, despite all the revisions since.

Saying it "essentially plays music".. you're waaaay off!

EDIT: Lads.. let's not jump down his neck just yet. He might just actually be curious about it. For fecks sake.. it's all too often that people criticize or question the iPhone / iPad in this forum, and people are baying for blood!

I've debated with myself about the iPhone. But when it comes down to it, the actual user experience that the iPhone delivers is 10 times better than any other smartphone I've tried. Aesthetically, it's the clear winner.

Yes, it has its flaws but it is the phone that every other competitor wants to beat.

I'd say everyone that's owned an iphone would never go back to a simple nokia or motorola

    I know I couldn't

I find the call quality of my 4 to be better than my 3GS, could not go back to a nokia after the iPhone.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,473 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

I criticized the first iphone for key features that was missing such as MMS, copy+paste, if you were writing a text and you received a call during it then you lost that text etc, poor camera etc etc.
I wouldn't be an apple fan...in fact I hate any fanboi be it intel/amd/nvidia/ati/apple/windows etc etc.

I had an itouch 1st gen which I used when I was flying abroad etc to watch movies/listen to music etc during the flight and also at the hotels I could plug in the composite cable and watch on my room tv.
I had the nano for my nike+ which motivates me to get off my fat ass and run so when the iphone 3g launched I decided it was time to get an all in one device.
I held off till the iphone 4 though as I knew it was due out and am very happy with it.
Compared to the symbian OS it's way faster and more intuitive, the only phone so far I would hold a candle to it is the HTC desire which is also an excellent phone.
But for me I have my movies when I'm going abroad, the ability to watch them on a tv, I have my nike+ for running and I have my music for whenever I want, all on one device which is worth it to me.
That's not evening mentioning the app store and the 3g capability giving me access to facebook, twitter, general online browsing etc when I'm out and about.

You've been reading too many papers or watching too much rubbish TV, have mine since launch date and zero call issues and sound is much better than the 3G i had before it or the poxy dinosaur N95 before that....... I thought i would never own another phone brand outside nokia but now i look at them as of their from a different backwards planet!!

Also i have yet to come across a simpler email system or better web browsing on another phone.

Maybe you should try one instead of talking out your ass....... Simple music player:confused::confused:

That's it in a nutshell. You've got to try it to believe it :D

Was away over the weekend, didn't need to recharge once. Happy enough with battery life. Never dropped a call, no reception problems either before or since I got my free bumper case.

When you break it down a pub is a building that sells drink, a restaurant a building that sells food.

    See my point?

Misinformed post is misinformed, and I'm no fanboy

Thanks everyone for the replies even it some were slightly not what I had anticiapted. To answer one of the earlier posters I have used the iphone for a bit and I didnt hype about it. So in order to get a more rounded view of it I decieded to ask here. Obviously I thought I'd get views on sadly I was mistaken on this occasion. Sorry to have wasted your time. *Retreats back under his rock*

    Guys why the harsh comment.

No wonder many of like apple fans. The op just made a point there's no need to bite his head off.

I use an iPhone 3GS and I love it but I will never make a comment and insults or degrade aanybody because of a phone.

Some guys need to grow up.

There has being. Few threads like this that were purely anti iPhone and just trolling this thread looked the exact same so I can't blame some people

I don't understand how anyone who claims to have used one for a while can come to the conclusion it is a phone with a music player. Unless it's a troll.

I can understand where the OP is coming from, I ignored all the hype thru the years, I loved my trusty old n95, took many upgrades, but gave em away to kids, friends.

Then I decided to upgrade my old 30gb ipod in april to a 3gen itouch, I was blown away by this device, absolutely loved it, carried it everywhere, but along with my smokes, money, keys, n95 and itouch I was overloaded, something had to give.

That coincided with the secret italian 3gs upgrades that three.ie were giving out, (found that out on boards.ie) So I bit the bullet and gave em a call when I was due a new upgrade, recieved the iphone the next day.

I also found out from boards that people who got this upgrade could upgrade again the next day, got a 5330 free for the wife (nice one, left hand not knowing what the right is doing, thanx three:D)

As for the Iphone I have it over a month now, I can only describe the experience as mindblowing, I'm always doing something with it, music, web, video, apps, its never out of my hands, I have a dedicated pocket now just for my iphone, never had that before.
I keep checking that its still there, mad.

Everything about it is so intuitive, call quality is excellent, watching videos is a dream, love the way sms works in seperate conversations, apps are incredible, jailbreak was childs play, I could go on and on, I feel I've only scratched the surface, every day I learn new cool things about it.

One example that blew me away, was the day I took the kids pitch and putt, was marking the scores for the four of us, had a thought this is a pain in the arce, went online got an app for marking scores, tap, tap, tap, tap after each hole, it even added up the totals as you were going.

I cant believe I was without this device for so long, my trusty old n95 is in my car now as backup, but sadly I dont think I'll ever switch it on again, unless something happens to my iphone and I'm waiting for a new one.

Sorry for the long post, but I feel better now getting it all out....;)

    regards

    Hello there.
I can't for the life of me understand why there was so much hype when the iPhone range was released. Like people q'd up for the phone outside outlets.
Lots of theories on this one.. Apple RDF, people love gadgets.... I personally would not do any queuing to hand over my cash..
Essentially when you break it down its a phone which plays music.

Lol, thanks man, that made me laugh. Sure, every phone nowadays is “phone which plays music”. Hell, my kitchen radio is better at playing music but man is it rubbish at making calls!! :D
So can someone please enlighten me as to why you would buy this phone considering the battery life is woeful in comparsion to other phones for example Nokia, ..

You are spot on again. My old Nokia 6310 battery could last for a week and half before I needed to recharge it. But my old Nokia 6310 could make calls , nothing else. :)
call quality is diplorable espeicallly on the iphone4

Maybe because calls are not received in surround sound Dolby digital 7.1 ? Don’t worry, calls are all fine , no issues there.
I can't see attraction to this phone am I the only one who doesnt see what the hype is about?!

I don’t do hype either. No phone is perfect and neither is Iphone Here’s what i like about my iphone. It’s my music player, it’s my movie and videos player on the go, it’s my game console, it’s my GPS, It’s my internet browser... i can go on. I love the fact that i can just plug it in the hotel TV and watch my videos on the large screen and play my music via TV speakers. It’s not perfect but its damn handy.
