Cost of Specialist?

    I've got a referral from the doc in A & E to go and see an orthopedic specialist next week. I've lived in ireland for 3yrs, but have never had to see a specialist etc and so don't know what the system is. The people at work said that as i have a referral i don't have to pay anything extra, but my flatmate said I would.

    Can anyone confirm for me what the process is and if I have to pay roughly how much? Also is it upfront or will they bill me?

    If it's public and you don't have a medical card it'll either be free or subject to the ?€26 outpatients levy
