No experience whatsoever, but even yesteryear's mid-range media laptops will run SC2.

Hi Sesna, did you get your laptop from Kobalt?

I'm in the market for a new laptop and looking at the CLEVO W860CU / Sager 8690 which I first saw on PC Torque.

Looking for EU resellers so I won't be caught for any extra charges / taxes. I'm considering using www.kobaltcomputers.co.uk; has anyone any experience with them? Or is anyone aware of any other sites that sell the Clevo?

    Thanks,
    Carol

Was going to but then got put off by some UK forums which said there had been an inordinate delay in delivery. This put me off, especially if I am spending €1700. One user had waited over one month. I should add that as far I know, they are a small business with few staff, and some users see this time delay as a positive, as it shows good build quality and order not rushed etc.

Still intend to buy a gaming laptop, and have decided on Alienware even though I know they are overpriced compared to building it yourself, and the laptops are not very portable.

I cancelled an order I had with them there a few days ago which I had placed at the start of October....
One delay after another without any communication from them. Every time something went wrong with the order I was only informed after I got fed up and asked where my laptop was.

    Nearly 3 months? That's ridiculous.

Seems like they were a small, reputable company several years ago. They seem to have expanded massively on the back of this, but now just can't cope with the amount of orders they're getting. The amount of horror stories I have read on various forums really beggars belief.

Check out MSI as well, they've been sponsoring some sc2 tourneys with their new laptop which the casters use to play sc2 on high settings with ease

I think it is the GT 660, there is a 640 model on amazon too, very high spec

why do people spend so much on a gaming laptop?
if you are going to be proper gaming then you need a kb and mouse which you'll find on a desktop machine
playing on a small screen is pointless unless you get a big 15"-17" which isn't a portable anymore
for that money you can get a top gaming desktop pc and an everyday laptop for the same price

For a desktop you need to have a computer desk for the machine, moniter, speakers, mouse & keyboard....

You can buy a large gaming laptop as a desktop replacement, yes it's more expensive but you dont need to take up sh*tloads of space to have it...

In practice I found the footprint of a laptop, in use, isn't that much less than a PC. But the PC can be upgraded and doesnt run foul of overheating as easilly. You still need the mouse, the headset, and the laptop itself is equivalent to a monitor and keyboard. The only thing different is the computer itself, just an extra box beside your chair.
